Playstation player here. When I heard the pc players were required to have a psn account to play Helldivers, I immediately boycotted the game. Helldivers isn't the same if we're not all on the frontlines fighting for democracy 🙏🙏🙏

It should be noted the CEO of Arrowhead did confirm the original intent to mandate account linking from the get go and having to temporarily make it optional due to server issues, and has openly accepted responsibility for that decision. Hopefully he's a good influence on Sony because that kind of honesty in the industry is sadly rare.

Responsibility is the wrong word in the wrong context here. Sony demanded PSN to be required during development and arrowhead had no ground to stand on, so had to accept. The CEO of Arrowhead is not responsible for PSN linking, what he was responsible for was not making it clear that PSN linking would be mandatory to the community (which should be Sony's job anyway)

@@Gaelic-Spirit It wasn't until I believe 6 months before launch that PSN was pushed to be required for Helldivers 2, so even the people claiming that Arrowhead is just as at fault as Sony "because they knew all along" isn't really the whole context either. By that point the game was already years into development, there was no chance they could just scrap it just because of the PSN thing, and the Helldivers IP was always owned by Sony, so Arrowhead really doesn't have that much power to dictate these things without some serious pushback, and we got that pushback in this situation with the negative reviews and Steam itself revoking the ability to purchase the game in tons of countries while also giving refunds to people with well over the limited hours. Sony only bent the knee because of Steam, I'm sure of it.

I noticed Åland islands on the list of non-PSN countries, Åland islands are actually a part of Finnish archipelago and not a country. Åland in Swedish or Ahvenanmaa in Finnish is an autonomous and demilitarized region of Finland, so it's a part of Finland even it has own flag. PSN works here in Finland, but somehow doesn't work in some part of Finland, I live in south-west of Finland so quite close to this supposed non-PSN "country" Åland islands, I could take a ship from the city where I live and where PSN works, to this mysterious non-PSN "country" Åland islands and suddenly I wouldn't have access to the PSN within the borders of the same country.

People didn't seem to understand that the PC player numbers are much higher than the PS5 player numbers. Log into Helldivers and look at the galactic map where it shows the current number of "Helldivers Active". Then look at the concurrent player count. Subtract. As I type this the game reports 127,865 Helldivers Active. Per Steam, there are 95,447 currently playing. That means there are only 32,418 PS5 players compared to 95,447 on PC. They were completely outnumbered and had the smaller voice all along.

8:29 theres just way too much gameplay in Helldivers 2. Not enough cutscenes and forced walking sections slapped over 20 minutes of monologue followed by 5 minutes of QTE gameplay followed by another 20 minutes of unplayable cutscenes. Sony fanboys are the kinda people who pay 74 dollars for a slightly interactive movie. Goosebumps books had more interactive storytelling than modern PS Studios games.

I haven't even considered that possibility, that they are pissed and jealous at the PC community because Sony bent the knee in matter of days with the PC community but they haven't managed to even make Sony flinch about the censorship of stellar blade after weeks of complaints. However after two decades of being nothing but docile and passive consoomers what did they expect? Sony knows that the PS console gamers have no spine to stand and trash them with everything within their power against Sony's abuse; meanwhile the PC community has a track record that includes crashing and burning the lame attempt of Microsoft to charge us for the online multiplayer, stopping valve on their tracks when they suggested to paywall the mods of the steam shop, daring Gaijin to shutdown Warthunder permanently if their demands weren't met and winning and those are just the the examples on top of my mind but there are more. I can't recall a single time of the console players doing something remotely similar, the closest is back when Microsoft tried to make the Xbox DRM always online in the Xbox one and they had to back down on that one; and that was the Xbox community, not the Playstation one.

As a steam player, despite it apparently being on the steam page that it was required, it was a hill we were all willing to die on because the game is that good and we have to stand for something. if people didn't care it wouldn't have gotten 300k downvotes in a weekend, no matter if it stood there since day one, people just had enough of corporations trying to get you in to their ecosystems again and again, if they had offered a bucket of carrots before that a lot would have signed up, but they used the stick. I say this without malicious intent, just aiming to correct something: It was not just a forum post hidden in some discussion tree somewhere on the discussion tab of the game. The steam page itself, the place where you go to buy your game, had the "This game requires third party account linking to PSN" box on it. So it was fairly upfront. The rest I 100% agree with everyone: Selling the game in places where PSN isn't even available is disgusting, delisting the game in said countries after people legally paid for it is horrendous, claiming you should link to PSN for added security is bullshit and we did get proven that the game works just fine without PSN linking for the past 3 months. Thankfully we won, for now.

Just wanna say I'm a PS5 player, and I absolutely detested what Sony tried to pull with this and I'm SO glad they reversed their boneheaded decision. My friend and I were playing the night before the decision was reversed, and we were both lamenting what was happening, how it would affect the game, the community, and all our fallen Helldivers no longer able to play. I even more the fallen heroes cape in honor of everyone who lost access. And I'm SO glad things worked out for now. But I'm really embarrassed by these Sony fanboys, as usual...

They actually had PSN link active for the first hours but they still sold the game, think about that. It was a fuck up from the start and it only worked like it did because Arrowhead realised and deactivated the link requierment. So Sony actually tried to sell a game to people that wouldn't even have been able to play from the start. Or maybe Arrowhead knew this would happen and did it on purpose but I highly doubt that

Yo, PS5 Diver here. I was against Sony the minute they made it mandatory when I personally realized what it meant for them to make it mandatory and witht he information I became privy too about things like data breaches and leaks, I realized how bad the situation was going to get. as someone said earlier, this was a victory for all Divers, clean and simple.

I’ve been a lifelong PS gamer and also own a PC. Cancelled my Plus over this. Idk why people feel the need to fanboy and bootlick for game companies. I like video games. Period. If the games are good, I like them. I don’t have brand loyalty. Especially since companies constantly go through staffing/leadership changes over time. Activision used to be the GOAT. Now look at them.

The difference is that Microsoft wasn't planning on banning people months after selling a game they specifically enforced to have a microsoft account for from the start and their security is somewhat reputable comparing to Sony's laughable wooden fence cybersecurity that gets breached too often. Sony changed their own rules and expected steam people to fold to their company.

Only have a Switch and PS4 and the closest I got to Helldivers is Deep Rock Galactic. But I still side with the pc players and their victory over Sony as I just hate how greedy these corporations have been getting.

Had to agree on this especially me who is also in one of country that is region locked, Im even down to make an account just for sake to play HD2 with my hommies but I can't make an account since PSN is not supported in my country/region, and worst is that refunding the game is almost impossible since I sank at least 160+ hrs in the game which is way pass steams window time to ask for a refund. Not sure how you can verify the PS user userbase tho, its hard to even find a source for PS userbase since its telling that PC has a very big number to even push sony back, if it wasn't sony would've gotten away with it like a crypto rug pull scam.

Sony's action was just as shady as the likes of Bandai Namco waiting until after all reviews have been released before launching battle passes and in-game stores, as they did with Tekken 8
