He is a Tencent advisor now. Not a Playstation or Xbox one. His comments are going to be biased in favor of his current position in Tencent which has it's fingers in many pies the most pivotal one at the moment being Ubisoft. Tencent are publishers and investors in many spheres including game companies but they do not have their own hardware. Hence his point of view. Yes the consoles will move away finally to being pure publishers and app based. But reaching that point faster will mean deleting Playstation and making it irrelevant sooner rather than later. His comments about Playstation not publishing on other platforms will only accelerate that if Playstation follow this path. With Xbox it's not so easy because they are now positioned to be split console/pc/subscription+cloud. When a "prominent" figure in any industry speaks, it's because they are like the conductor of an orchestra. It's because they wish to influence the market in what they say and push in a direction. I personally don't trust a word that comes from his mouth. The fact that the gaming press are also so keen to amplify his words is also another indicator.

@mr_m4613 that's true in the context of AAA games but Nintendo created a lane of its own using innovation and less power contributing to high sales not having having big budget game development.

The moment Xbox transitioned from a Console to an Ecosystem back in 2016, starting with Quantum Break, was the moment that the concept of "console gaming" started coming to an end. The moment Microsoft's Satya Nadella announced that Xbox would now have the full backing of Microsoft (I think this was in 2020, if I remember correctly) was the moment that the transition of "console wars" to "ecosystem competation" was doubled-down upon by Xbox. The moment Xbox officially added Activision to their portfolio was the moment that the "ecosystem competition" was already decided for the immediate future. Xbox has eclipised PlayStation by leaps and bounds alteady. And I can make an argument about this being true for Nintendo as well. Their closest competitor is Steam at the moment. Steam has the mind share, but the Xbox Ecosystem already has superior flexibility (their games playable on consoles, computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, TV apps, Windows handhelds, and cloud - while Steam is limited to PCs, laptops, cloud, and handhelds) and comparatively aggressive marketing on their side, as well as reach through familiarity: almost everybody that has ever owned a PC has a Microsoft account, while, comparatively speaking, not as many have a Steam account. If Microsoft's Xbox, via PC, apps, and cloud, can make their way i to markets PlayStation hasn't resched yet (and is still actively neglecting), Xbox can solidify its space in the PC and smartphone regions of gaming at a very rapid pace. But to be able to do that, their refund policy will have to be improved up, and their online gaming would have to be free on their consoles for them to be a viable companion (or even main) device in the future.

This has been my thought with the genesis of cloud gaming. Consoles can only make minimal graphical upgrades and keep a consumer-friendly price tag. The issue is consoles take time to develop, and by the time they hit the market, they are already a generation or two behind PC in terms of architecture. This is why I believe its smart for Microsoft to make a hybrid pc/console. It further blurs the lines between PC and console. Microsoft indirectly profits from the shift due to windows and can focus on cloud services for gamers who just dont want a PC to game. Sony doesnt have this luxury in the PC market and will likely have to compete more for the cloud and mobile markets. Something it seems Microsoft has a lead in as well

Betamax tapes was the alternative to VHS tapes. It had better quality (might've cost more), yet consumers (*cough* *cough* adult movies *cough* *cough*) sided with VHS. So that won out. Similar how Blu-ray won over HDDVDs.
