Perfect for playing C/J/RPG, I'd say. I also have both Backbone and Portal. If only the Backbone can be fitted onto an 8" tablet, I wouldn't have bought the Portal. As it is, however, the Portal today is NOT what it was when it first released. After two to three firmware updates, it runs even MORE stable and sharper than the Backbone ever could. I love it!

Thanks! It’s called the BURSTNINJA Adjustable Stand Base. Basically just a cheap Steam Deck one I found on Amazon. It’s not that great for the portal to be honest because it touches up on the screen. Looking forward to seeing if any third parties release some nice stands and cases for it though

I’ve tested it playing DMZ and MWZ on my channel and it’s best for Zombies since this mode is not that sensitive to a very little input lag.

We don't want to take the TV in the living room from the family, and I also don't want to be locked away in another room from them, so I'd stay up a few hours when they had all gone to bed. Good video but it is not correct that the resolution on remote play for iPad to be 720p. It is actually up to 1080p, depending on connection.

@@MrSledgehammer93 the only workaround is to plug the usb transmitter in PS5 and check how far the audio transmission reach your headset, unfortunately it won’t work if you plug it in PS portal directly. I assume you are using Arctis series.

I'm tired of people crapping all over the Portal when they haven't even touched the device yet. I don't play a whole lot anymore because of my busy life and kids, but the Portal has given my gaming time new life. I've tried remote play on my 14 Pro Max, Mac, iPad, and PS4, and none of those match up to how well it works on the Portal. It's been a game changer for me and I won't complain about it. Pretty good deal for $200 honestly.

Hey guys can this device be used on any wifi or does it have to be used on home wifi? Like I travel a lot and I can’t take my ps5 with me cause of the size lol. You’re able to use it on any wifi anywhere in the world as long as ur ps5 is either turned on or in rest mode. However, u aren’t able to use it at certain places/ businesses where their wifi will require u to login using a browser, since the portal doesn’t have a browser.

Even Apple acknowledged there’s a lag with AirPods. They actually included lag into the AirPods because technically only one of the AirPods can receive a Bluetooth signal from the phone which is then passed onto the second AirPod. It’s a half a second or more and that makes a difference in gaming.

Thanks for sharing. I can see that making a difference for more competitive gamers but for the casual PS5 owner, Bluetooth would have been nice. The upcoming earbuds are capable of simultaneous LINK and BlueTooth output so it’s clearly not an either or.

I took the portal out today to test it on the go and I can't lie it not to bad. It Is a bit of a redundant item if u own backbone but the portal is way more ergonomic. One thine I don't understand is why the portal has an airplane mode if it's only pays games via wifi unless Sony intend to add a way to store games internally

It depends how good your connection is and how competitive you are. I would feel comfortable playing Fortnite but I’m also pretty bad at it 😅

I tested remote play app at my child mother house in the same city we live in and it worked like a charm, played a game of MW3 , got 13 kills, was in the middle of ladder board, definitely enjoyable experience. Now I have no choice but order 2 portals so we can get it as a gift from Santa..

The console itself is not bad, I received it the day before the cut. Yesterday I tried to connect from my friend’s house, but I couldn’t connect remotely, even though the main console was running and no one was using it. And all the settings were set correctly both for the main console and for the home Internet, everything works fine. It is not yet clear what the problem is PS Portal.

Ah that’s frustrating. Have you tried disabling remote play on your PS5 and then enabling it again? I heard that worked for some people

I always seem to struggle to get the touch pad controls working on Chialki but other than that it’s been fine. The main differences are 1080 and a more reliable connection. It depends on your budget and how happy you are on the deck

Yes it would work. Long term no with updates and digital games. I’m pretty sure the ps5 checks online once in a while to verify your games. A lot of people are mixing up internet with local area network, WiFi . The portal only uses internet when you are away from home.

You can only play one game at a time. It basically mirrors your PS5.

I’m definitely enjoying mine. I’m a guy that doesn’t really do any remote play outside of the house and if I’m really craving it, I can just take my OLED switch. It’s not a big deal if you don’t have a great Wi-Fi connection to use your portal. And in another sense if I’m going to family or friends house I have the PS5 “4K case club” mobile gaming unit so I am definitely good 😂

What’s the time of day got to do with the performance? Your incoming line is irrelevant when playing this on your home network. The only impact on performance will be your home (internal) network.

Not sure where you’re based but in the UK, broadband runs through shared telephone lines which can slow down when the network is busy, for example when a lot of people are working from home

Looks good. Im kind of interested and not. Canceled my pre order. Ive got an ayaneo 2, 1920x1200 lcd. Which doesn't have any issues like steam deck. Im willing to drop £120-140 on one. Which is pretty realistic for a mint but second hand one. Its really gonna be a device i may or may not use. Ayaneo 2, deck oled ordered, psvr 2 for cinema mode,4k oled portable monitor with ps5 controller then the portal. Its quite far down the pecking order. I could of upped it a few spots if it had offline play. Which isnt possible i know but still. If it had, be more worthile to me.

@IntentionalTech in general its pretty decent. Sucker for a bargain. Most items I buy are second hand but mint for big reductions. My aya2 costs over £1500, got it for 600. Mint. When you start talking some decent value on items, ppl look after them and usually sell cos they don't want something so expensive doing nothing. You can grab a bargain. Only steam deck I've bought new in years. Since ps5 and xbox release. On anything £500+ I save around £100+ everytime. My last buy was quest 3, mint, 12 warranty from ebay, £490, £140 off meta price. Looked unused tbh.

The biggest thing that worries me about this device….is the joystick drift. I’ve gone through 5 controllers from drift since the ps5 came out

I've watched a tear down, accessing the analog sticks requires a fair amount of tearing down but it's low risk tearing down and once you get the sticks accessible they're quite modular. I don't think replacing them will be too problematic. The much bigger problem is the battery is super inaccessible, have to remove the screen to get at it which is super frustrating. Of course this is from watching a tear down, haven't done it myself yet so take what I say with a grain of salt, only so much you can learn from watching instead of doing.

WiFi and internet speeds are 2 different things. You should not be impacted by peak internet times. Get a decent WiFi 6 mesh network and it’ll be flawless.

As a busy parent who is probably also looking to save a buck or 2 wouldn't you be better served buying something like the Backbone One and using it with the phone you already have then spending $200 a separate device that can literally only be used to remote play your PS5 and that doesn't have Bluetooth so you have to go out of you way to buy a Bluetooth dongle to connect your headphones or pay another $200 for Sony's proprietary earbuds. And it doesn't have any sort of data connection so if you want to use it outside the house you have to tether it to your phone anyway. Honestly this thing sound like aa waste of money when other cheaper solutions exist. The fact is Sony could open the use of Remote play with any mobile controller instead of only the Backbone and this thing then you could easily just get mobile controller for your iPad and have a nearly identical experience to this thing with large screen. But no Sony really did come out with a $200 device solely to remote play with.

I actually think the Backbone One is way more overpriced than the Portal. They even try to charge you a subscription fee just for full use of the Backbone app. If you can get it for £50 then fair enough but for me the Portal is 5x better than it so I’m comfortable with how it’s priced - after all, DualSense controllers are almost as expensive as the backbone even without the added display.

My portal can’t stay connected to the internet for longer than 5 mins. Quality is horrible and the input delay makes me want to throw it into a lake. My internet isn’t the fastest out there but it ain’t ever struggling to keep devices connected. My ps5 50 feet away from my router never once disconnected or had issues with latency or lag. My portal 2 feet away from my router can’t keep 1080p with 2 second input delay. Disconnected every other device in the house and ensured both console and portal connected to the same WiFi. One of my life’s biggest regrets😂

I still don't know why people want another dedicated handheld like the Vita. It just wont sell. And waste the time and resources of their studios to make games for it. Now the only way is to make a device that can actually download PS5 games, but that will cost $500+. Don't know how well that will do, and should run games just like the ps5. Otherwise it's a compromise like the series s.

I dunno why people say stick drift is a problem. I last got it more than a year ago and all I did was push the analog stick until it clicks and keep it down then blow a 360 inside the hole. Gets rid of all the dirt or whatever from it drifting.

Everyone has their biases, whether they’re conscious of them or not. However, I have highlighted the things I don’t like as much. I did think about why it’s not OLED and ultimately I think it’s down to cost. LCD’s are cheaper to produce and since people are already upset about the price, it was probably the right decision to go for a cheaper display. That said, it is beautiful.

This is a parent’s perspective. If my iPad is balanced on my lap while I’m holding a controller, it won’t be there for long. It’s also much less convenient if you want to lie down and play. Handheld is simply a better form factor.
