@@BulbaSmasher >buys consoles and games for display, instead for playing them Yeah, millenials do that a lot. PSIO is definitely the best option out there, since it allows to play ISO's on real hardware. Action replay has nothing to do with how to play ROM's/ISO's; action replay is just any good for cheating in games. But if you don't even have the game, how to cheat? See, makes no sense what you're spouting here. Sure, you will need to find the ROM's online, or you just create your own back-up of the games you own by using a tool called ''Imageburn'', putting the PS1 game of your choice into the CD drive of your PC and letting the program do its magic. It really is that easy to create your own ISO. PSP/PS Vita/PS3 all just emulate; it is not the real console. That too applies to the PS1 Classic, which was we all know at this point, is just the PCSX emulator in disguise of a retro console from the 90's. The PSIO however doesn't emulate the games themselves, but the mechanics of the hardware of the original console, meaning that there won't be game-specific hacks like say, in emulators such as ZSNES. It even is listed in the FAQ on the official PSIO site. ps-io.com/faq/ Please get your facts right next time, before spouting snarky remarks that are not witty at all, let alone fail to be correct. @SennaFan The reason why people bitched about the PAL games on the Playstation Classic were, because PAL games run slower, which is to be expected by an emulator. No matter how people put it, an emulator will never replicate the original console perfectly. Sony just fucked up deceiving people this time; PAL games run perfectly fine on (guess what) PAL-optimized consoles. Since Sony mixed the NTSC and PAL roms and just used an emulator instead of builing an actual, real console, it was to be expected that people will notice the slowdown. That said, you said ''The only irony here is this flash let's you play JAP imports and PAL GAMES! The very games people claimed ruined the classic. Yet here, no one mentions it? That's ironic.'' What's your point? You do realize that people can use the PSIO flashcard to put whatever ISO's on SD card, right? They are not limited to play neither european nor japanese games. And even then, japanese PS1 games are NTSC, just like american PS1 games, so that's just a moot point that makes no sense. People complained about these games because the Playstation Classic wasn't optimized to play both, NTSC and PAL games. The SD2SNES for example allows for selecting what region you want the games to play as, meaning you can choose between PAL (50Hz) and NTSC (60Hz). I don't know if PSIO suppots such an option yet, but I doubt they wouldn't include this option later on, if the device doesn't do so already. Since PSIO can be updated via firmware updates, compatibility with games can also be improved, and new features can likely be added, too. Currently, there are only like 2-3 games that are unplayable/freeze, with a handful of other games having minor issues. Other than that, every game runs perfectly fine. www.cybdyn-systems.com.au:82/issues/?filter=-5 I swear, people need to do their homework So much misinformation and entitled pricks spouting nonsense online... Edit: Yes, you can switch video modes, so switching from PAL output to NTSC input and vice versa is a thing. Definitely recommend buying a PSIO. And if you are not good at soldering (like me), the developers of the device offer to install it for you. Just buy the device, the switch board kit and the mainboard modification service and you should be good. If all that is worth your money, that's up to you, but looking at what you get for the bang of your buck, it's definitely worth it. ps-io.com/store/

They spent years developing this and when they release it they make you mod the console. It's just a shame because GDEMU has put out SD cards for the Dreamcast & the Saturn and more and all you have to do is remove the optical drive and then plug the unit in and it works. No modding is needed, which is a much bigger selling point. They need to revise this so that the detection works through the serial port alone and no modding is needed. I would rather the CD drive just stopped working when the unit was plugged in and it overrode the CD drive. Sadly it a big NO from me.
@SerBallister6 жыл бұрын
Quite strange it needs a mod, the PIO slot at the back is ran so early in the Sony BIOS that you have the chance to patch everything in software. Action Replay/etc worked like that.

Cybdyn offer a mod service where you send in your PSX motherboard and they install the switch board for you. Not that it is hard. You just need a basic solder iron with a thin tip and some patience. Instructions are clear. They are working on a way to avoid the switch board but that takes time developing.
@hanzobi19266 жыл бұрын
It's no different from a mod chip install 20 + years ago. The trace cut are only the most tedious ones of the install but if you have the right tools it's fine. I had zero soldering experience and did my PU-8 board fine. A plug n play solution without a board install will never happen because SONY did not have direct access to the CD-ROM controller and that is why the board is needed to re-route the communication from the Parallel Port to the CD drive, hence why a bad install, the console won't boot or the CD-ROM will not be recognised when PSIO is plugged in because PSIO still works side by side the drive.

MJR: (being interrogated in a police station) "PSIO, a PS1 SD flash drive built by Cyberdyne systems for retro gamers." Police officer: "Now I understand soldering is required?" MJR: "Something about the motherboard of the console." Police officer: "Why?" MJR: "I DIDN'T BUILD THE FUCKING THING!"

Definitive way to play PS1 games, nothing else comes close. Have a 256GB card, running this on a JVC CRT 27" TV through RGB SCART and it's absolutely awesome. PS1 is one of those systems you really need to play on original hardware - no emulation can ever compare. The new menu updates are super easy to use as well, from what they've said in their news segment it's now at almost 100% compatibility, apparently only a single game is left before it's 100%.

I remember they had stuff like this for PSone's with the port. Except we didn't have SD cards; however, the packages came with everything this product comes with. I have seen someone talk about adding that quick chip to motherboard as a way to override the PSone in ages. I'm happy to see something like this come along so much later. I might actually get into PSone games again
@wbblueye13876 жыл бұрын
150$ for this Cartridge?!?!?! This is idiotic. Its better to buy a Chip from ebay for 1-2$ and solder it into the console

LOVE my PSIO!! Got mine a couple years ago. I was sure that I'd damaged my mainboard installing the switchboard, but it was a success! (Use the finest tip you can find for your iron, use a strong magnifying glass/jewelers loupe, and be very careful!) Best $125 I've spent on a peripheral, hands down! Most effective way to future-proof your beloved PS1.

I know this is a little late but the region lock is on the drive itself not on the motherboard so the psio unit obviously is region free so it can play any region where is the stock disk drive cannot.

I'm a member of a Dreamcast group on Facebook, and I've seen people posting pictures for something similar for the Dreamcast! It is a more extensive modification, though, as it involves removing the disk reader and replacing it with an SD card reader, which is kind of a bummer. It's cool that this one for the PlayStation allows you to retain the optical drive, but I wonder as our disk based games age and begin to fail more frequently, if we'll see more solutions like the Dreamcast one that just get rid of optics all together in favor of something like an SD card reader.

Am I the only one who saw the title and thought this would be a way of storing your old saved games on an SD card and having the ability to backup those saves through an SD card reader on your PC? But instead turned out to be an alternative way of playing games without the disc whilst running on the original console hardware, still pretty cool though!

Hey, great video! My PSIO finally arrived last week, nice to play games now without stuttery FMV (when my laser even bothered to load anything). Cheers for highlighting some games I'd never heard of, Gunners Heaven looks fun and I'd forgotten about Ray Tracers, I used to love that. :)

I noticed that they offer the board seperately so you can mod all your PS1's and then just move the ps-io to the one you want to use. Not sure why you would want to, but the option is there.

raspberry pi 3b+ with retro pi will save you a ton of time and frustration. you get to play more than just ps1 games and do it wirelessly. bought one after I cancelled my ps1 classic pre-order and I was so glad i did. 2 raspberry PIs plus heat sink set and sd cards set me back for just under $100. now I got a great neat retro game set up and also have a perfect gift for my favorite cousin who is also into retro games

Philosoma is NOT a "vertical shooter" ... it's a "multi-directional shooter " . Each stage is one direction , one is vertical, one horizontal, one isometric, another behind the spacecraft, etc... This is the cool thing about the game and it sets it apart from the rest, you never know what the next phase will be like.

Really nice (and reassuring) to see that pretty much everyone in the comments section is on board with this, coming from a Switch owner if something like this was suggested on KZbin/games website for a Nintendo console most of their mental fucking fans would have screamed “piracy”, jumped down your throat for reporting on this and then attacked anyone else in the comments who dares show approval - nice job Sony people!
