I've never had a console break and I've owned everything from a ps1 to a ps4. Consoles are, bar some exceptions like the OG Xbox 360 or some versions of the original xbox, pretty reliable.

Buddy smoked in the room where that console was kept. That's nicotine residue, comes off pretty easy. In fact, it probably coated the console and preserved the plastic lol...

I restored my PlayStation yesterday after it had stickers, a strange metal disc stuck on top, the open button was stuck down and the controller was filthy. I put it away because I didn’t want to play with the disgusting console. It was put away for about ten years.

Its fairly well known that the plastic used to make the shells of old consoles will discolor after aging. It was especially prevalent in SNES'. Still possible that it was just stored poorly considering all the dirt and grime in it.

@wulfone5961

This is why when I buy something from Ebay I always look for items in new condition or coming from a smoke free home. I don't smoke so I don't want my items covered in that nasty yellow crap. Plus they just stink. It stinks up everything. You can at least wash it out of clothes but electronics is another issue.
