Buddy smoked in the room where that console was kept. That's nicotine residue, comes off pretty easy. In fact, it probably coated the console and preserved the plastic lol...

Its fairly well known that the plastic used to make the shells of old consoles will discolor after aging. It was especially prevalent in SNES'. Still possible that it was just stored poorly considering all the dirt and grime in it.
@marciocattini126 жыл бұрын
I think you can leave the case in some hydrogen peroxide to get that yellow tinge off, it's what the 8bit guy used on his old mac restoration!

That yellow grime all over the Playstation is cigarette smoke residue! It's terrible how smoke can do that but yeah!

i have a SNES that i picked up that has the rotting plastic from the bromine they used in the plastic, do you think the bleaching method would be safe for the yellowing removal?
@RobertNES8166 жыл бұрын
degenerate I wouldn't do it. Only because if the rot is bad enough the console might break apart during disassembly.
@r714906 жыл бұрын
Robert NES816 I’ve already disassembled it with no problem. however, their is some cracking/breaking that I see in one of the bottom corners, so I’ll just stick to not using the bleaching method. Thank you for your input

Probably in a smokers house. People who smoke heavily inside, everything tends to get just tons of yellow SHIT all over it. Disgusting habit.
@wulfone59616 жыл бұрын
This is why when I buy something from Ebay I always look for items in new condition or coming from a smoke free home. I don't smoke so I don't want my items covered in that nasty yellow crap. Plus they just stink. It stinks up everything. You can at least wash it out of clothes but electronics is another issue.
