I am deaf. So all I'm doing is turning my system on and off repeatedly. No menu. Wish they thought to put visual cues into the lights such as fast beeps and slow beeps so those of us with bad hearing could know what to do.

At this point you may figured it out...anyway, if that's not the case try this: - step 1: press the power button (PS3 turns on) and hold it until the console shuts down by itself; now you can release the button - step 2: press the power button (PS3 turns on) again and hold it until the message "Connect the controller using a USB cable, and then press the PS button" appears on screen

My PS3 stopped being able to read Blue Ray movies, and suggested to fix the file structure in safe mode, their instructions for safe mode wasn't clear, yours was perfect and the problem is now solved.

Great video very helpful. Just wish the PS3s were made better and not so cheap. Corrupt files happen all the time and the system freezing when trying to log in online is terrible and a fault that shouldnt happen.

I think hat even if we can't notice it, Sony has done a massive work in making our PS3 as reliable as possible, but I also think that it shouldn't be easy to guarantee a great stability in a system with continuous updates, new game data and so on...

A friend of mine downloaded and installed the lastest GT6 patch. After making it to the main menu of the game, he turned the system off without issue. When he turned it back on, the system froze before loading the XMB. So he went into safe mode, chose "Restore File System" and now it says: "Preparing...Please wait". It's been 24 hours and he's still seeing this screen.

i have done some research and called sony costumer support only the only way to fix your ps3 if option 3 says preparing for long time is click option 5 which is to delete every thing from your ps3. hope this helps...

I am thinking about using steps 3 and 4 to try to remedy a problem of apparent lost space. As in, Hard Drive space seeming to have disappeared with no know reason, whether it be from downloads which did not occur or any other data related event. Irritating as can be because I have a CECHE01 80GB system with 74GBs total space, only have around 45GB taken up in game installs, and the rest of the data on my system would only add up to around 50GB worth of total used space...ugh...

Mate, make sure you connect the Controller to the PS3 via the cable and then hit PS button. It will sync and work!

take out the Hard drive 2. put the hard drive in an enclosure 3. connect to PC make a simple volume 4. format 5. put the hard drive back in the console and it will boot to the safe mode screen and will tell you to install the OS

damn alright man. I'm in a situation right now from the last update they put out. I could be bricked too. Hopefully you can get a new one. And I dont think sony would do that to their customers, its just a very unlikely thing that happens to some ps3 owners from being online and them releasing patches that are glitchy.

I am having an issue trying to download Metal Gear Solid IV off the PS Store my system tells me that there is not enough space on the system storage to download the game. I have a 500GB HDD in my PS3 and even though it's pretty full I was able to clear out about 45GBs of space for Metal Gear Solid IV which is only reading as a 27GB download. So I'm not sure why it continues to tell me I don't have enough to download this game. I'm going to try some of these Safe Mode options and see if they help maybe there is some corrupt data taking up space on my HDD that I can't see.

Well my hardrive has been corrupted now for awhile And for the past two weeks I've been trying to fix it in safe mode since it won't start up, Litterally every option I select does not work, it will just say "preparing" or its loading or deleting something, and it will stay like that for hours and not change at all, I'm about to just try and delete everything but that probably won't even work... Dammit sony...

Nipzzy Huzzle Just go on ebay. Get a New HDD or SDD any GB ya want. Swap it with your old one. Boom, done. Same with any PS3 buy a low GB and swap it out. Turn any PS3 into a TB for $80 on Ebay. Good luck boys

or not I've tried every single item on that restore list... something's wrong is like it's not letting the ps3 reading pkg or iso files.. yet rebug tool is on there, pkg format and it reads it and installs it.. flash drives I've only got 64 gb ones.. it's like I haven't transferred anthng to the fleah drive.. can't get ps3 to update.. or considers every single update file as corrupted data even from official exploit site.. don't understand.. don't even know anymore what folder on ps3 o should put the games on and if iso or pkg filme and don't know if I need any tool for it to read pkg or iso files.. this doesn't work on my fat pS3. Anytime I turn it on, it gives me the yellow light. When I flip the switch in the back and hold the power button, it goes to the yellow light, beeps 3 times, then blinks red. When I take my finger off and hold it again, the red light doesn't blink anymore it just stays there. If I push it again it starts up and gives the yellow light again and repeats. Changing the power outlet doesn't work either.
