At 0:44 you can see the sigil on his poncho, meaning this game takes place within the same universe as the previous games. The storyboard of shadow of colossus explains how, many many years before shadow of the colossus / ICO take place, there was a natural disaster that wiped out most of civilization and set the survivors back thousands of years technologically. It looks like this game takes place during / immediately after that natural disaster, back when civilization was technologically advanced. Thousands of years before ICO / shadow of the colossus / TLG.

Interesting theory, but the design language/biology of the colossi vs these robots are so different I don't think it's the same civilization that made the colossi. I'd totally buy it being in the far future though, probably after The Last Guardian (Also side-note, I don't think this disaster was natural at all. The PA voice mentions "ground zero" which is used to refer to bombs. Involving sci-fi nukes just makes things even more interesting honestly)

But I do think it looks like the shock wave from an asteroid impact in this trailer, asteroid impact zones are also referred to as ground zero. And the leaked sotc storyboard says that civilization used to be far more technologically advanced long before shadow of the colossus, which explains the robot and the main character having a gun. I think this game may be about the fall of the ancient civilization. I don't think this link will ever be confirmed or denied, just like the link between SOTC and Ico, they never actually confirmed that the horned people from Ico are descendants of Dormin, but it's what most people believe

I think it's less so the visuals and more so the song (played over and over after each colossus and during the cinematic opening and ending scenes) , climbing a massive giant, and the Dormin shadows in the distance that scream SOTC more than the other two games.

This will be their game of all time, after almost 30 years, this group of talented and amazing game makers can finally make the game of their dreams, with no hardware limitations and limitless creativity. Words cannot describe how excited I am for this game, We went from Ico, to Shadow of the Colossus, and finally to the Last Guardian, and now this sometime in the future. This is my most anticipated game ever. Thank you Fumito Ueda and your entire team for making some of my favourite games and to an eventual other new favourite game. I hope to see more of this game in the coming years, hopefully not too many though.

@@zitriphyer8429 True, but compared to their older games they definitely can have a better range of creativity and visuals because back during the PS2 era, SOTC struggled to run well on the console because it simply exceeded the limits of it by a little bit. Even the last guardian struggled to maintain 60 fps on the PS4. Now they can make a game with little to no limitations because technology has simply developed further, and epic games publishing most likely means a pc port of the game, but thats just a huge guess.

It is mind-boggling to think that in 23 years, Ueda has only created 3 video games. And it's amazing to see that each one is insanely unique, and follows nearly NO conventional rules about game design. Clearly his game design philosophy means his games take forever to get working. But once they come out, they are always, without fail, completely alien and unique to everything else that is on the market. We're probably still another 3-5 years away from this game, but I cannot wait to see what groundbreaking and fascinating ideas he has in store for us.

Hopefully we have nothing to worry about. Fumito Ueda already said that as part of the deal with Epic Games, he & his team would be allowed to make the game they wanted with no interference. The only thing I have slight concern over is that Epic Games isn't so keen on physical releases. This game however will be so highly anticipated, I'm sure it will receive a physical release.
