+Robert Langford Orphan of Kos nearly broke me. I had to summon for co-op like a scrub :-) The move set just never clicked with me. I personally clicked better with laurence the first vicar. I know people struggle with that one but I really enjoy that fight and find it easier without co-op. Spent a good couple hours helping others beat Laurence in co-op for fun. Paying it forward. (Also on a side note I beat Dark Souls 1 last week on PS3. Cracking game.)

Thank you Nathan and Dave for the awesome play-through! If there is any chance you see this comment, and for future reference, I think I know why you were dealing less damage to the tengu by the bridge in a couple of instance during the fight. Notice how there was a glow emanating from your feet after you were hit with a wind slash, and that meant you were inflicted with wind damage. As long as the glow was active your damage numbers were lower than when you were not glowing. This led me to believe that wind damage makes you suffer a debuff that drastically weakens your attacks for the duration of the effect. Furthermore, even though Nathan blocked against the tengu's wind slashes at 54:59, they still dealt elemental damage to you (wind damage is denoted by green numbers). In this case, wind damage is only completely avoidable if you hide behind something that blocks the damage or by dodging it completely. Around 54:20 I saw how Nathan dodged to the left to try and avoid the wind slash, but he timed it a bit too early. However, I'm not sure if he could have avoided it since the attack was so wide. I think doing a forward dodge for these types of attacks will prove useful in future battles. Thanks!

at 1:04:33, When you guys asked "What is that!?", I was like "NO WAY! A Kappa in Nioh.. Try and kill it..?" (as it is the only create of Japanese folklore I know by name).. Then that moment when you actually killed it and got the title "Kappa Cutter", I knew I was right... that moment made my day! Still so many games on the backlog yet I might treat myself to this game. I just hope when buying in Japan, it will also include English subs like Final Fantasy 15, otherwise I might have a hard time understanding things. I gave up on following the story of Samurai Warriors/戦国無双 4 because of the "old Japanese" used in it..

That wheely thing with 2 faces is called a Wheelmonk, if I remember from the beta correctly. What you said about only killing them in a messy fight is pretty true. I always tried to get a status effect on them super quick. Earth element is amazing against them.

If you always doege the bidman to the left and keep out for the staff follow up with a block you should be okay. Removing the okais "Stamina" open them up to be stuned on hit(workes on the bosses too). Kick attacks do alot of ki damage. All stances have an evade ki regeneration, you just have to aquire the in the "learn skill", They are a universal skills for all weapons.(last chance version atleast) when you encounter a "mimic chest" and do the same gesture as the mimic he gives you stuff you can Cheese the human enemies (revenants too) with the entangle spear attack, have to buy it in the "learn skill-spear" You are still much better then most youtubers who shared content on this game. Would love to play this level thou.

Just coming back from playing the Beta. I must say that beyond the obvious similarities with the Souls games, this game is very, very different.. and I LOVE this little fact. Not only this makes it difficult in a very unique and fresh way, it improves many of the issues of the Souls games and adds lots of new stuff that made me actually think "Hey, why isn't this in Dark Souls?". One MAJOR improvement: no more objects blocking the camera - they become transparent!! Simple and brilliant. (Not to mention it has been a solution since Baldur's Gate's days.) The game is also very complex and the learning curve is steep, almost vertical :D There's so much to the combat mechanics that it's quite overwhelming. I can say that Dark Souls' combat seems somewhat trivial compared to Nioh's. I'm just saying. It remains to be seen if the story and characters are as deep as well and also if the game's appeal lasts until its very end and transfers to its New Games or it quickly vanishes after the initial novelty mist clears. I don't think that it's appropriate to compare both franchises in terms of which one's better. Honestly, I'm thinking of pre-ordering this game only to say to the devs "Thank you for trying something new and bold."

Pro tips: get the dodge ki restore upgrade, also get into the habit of R1 restoring your key whenever you swing your sword because there is time, more often than not with regular enemies you can get in more than one hit, when an enemy attacks try to dodge round behind them, and also when fighting an enemy sprint at them! to shorten the distance, don't regular run, also when targeting them sprint around them to get behind. When behind an enemy always do the backstab attack, don't just start slashing. Bows are good for being quiet and very effective against enemies without helmets, press R3 to zoom in! And don't be afraid to use your living guardian against basic enemies if it's looking like you're about to eat it. And cheese the game if you can exploit an enemy. If the terrain is risky with water or a cliff edge then kite the enemy back to safer ground. Finally, use the blacksmith! You can upgrade your armour and weapons bringing their levels up higher.

Just don't forget (like I did) that if you have a weapon you really like you can take it to the forge and level it up with you. This is how you get armor sets that let you get 97% chances to not lose a use of an item when you use it e.g. fire a special shot, but your ammo count doesn't go down

I think blocking most of the heavier attacks with the sword must result in a bit of a damage to the character. Not much but just enough to make you not cower behind blocking until you can hit or run. It will also give being with low health some form of urgency and greater risk.

Bosses will usually have a way around this, mostly with Elemental Effects or Debuffs. Others will just have attacks that plain ignore your attempts to block, and for some enemies (like the flaming wheel) blocking only results in you getting killed because of rapid attacks.

simich No problem. Though I will admit, once you've come to master the game's mechanics you will be able to play the whole game like its enemies are just puppets on strings. But that's a matter of experience, knowing how everyone will move, knowing when to strike. Once you hit that level the game gains a new level of fun in challenging yourself with ever increasing challenges. I remember trying to No-Hit-Run the whole first level in the Beta. It was still a challenge, but it was fun.

Hey, great gameplay but you're waiting a little too long after your enemies to attack before you attack. When they attack move laterally, like you have been, then strike immediately after they're swing. You'll notice that you'll have a bit more time to gather chi too. cheers!

the boss looks like a mix of warrior of the east and Hino Enma (beta boss) with the ranged attacks and melee but much faster and less choreographed. Practice dodging start seeing the signs and get gut at parrying without fighting him myself i can't help much more than this
