I had similar “in the deep end” type of parenting but it wasn’t a swimming pool; my dad, when I was 7 years old he held up a baseball and had me feel it “hard isn’t it?” he said to me, “yeah dad, it pretty hard.” He then told me to go down to the other end of the yard, I was so excited and naive to the teachings ways of my father. He looked to me and asked “are you ready?” I sure was just not the way he wanted me to be. Anyway, down the pike came a fastball, I luckily raised my glove in time and snatched it. My hand throbbing, my eyes watering and the next thing I heard, good now you are ready to play first base, which I did for nearly 15 years. Thanks dad!! Later I tell you how he taught me to fight.
