Raising Kratos documents the five year, herculean effort to reinvent one of the greatest stories in gaming, God of War. Facing an unknown future, Santa Monica Studio took a massive risk, fundamentally changing their beloved franchise and re-establishing their rightful place in video game history.
More than just a “making of,” this cinematic journey of second chances rooted in family, sacrifice, struggle and doubt follows game director Cory Barlog and those who chase perfection in art and storytelling. Witness the incredible defeats, the unpredictable outcomes and the down-to-the-wire tension on full display in this true life redemption story.

Artists wouldn't care if someone likes the art or not. They do what they like and hope to find a little niche they can settle into. I'd say he cried more as a provider for his family. To finally know he would have a future and his game wouldn't tank

That’s a lot of people. Masahiro Sakurai did that for the Smash Bros. Series. The problem is there’s not enough people like you to realize that it’s difficult as gamers don’t respect developers.

@@hamidmehrdad5805 I don't respect the industry practice of crunch that has slipped under the radar for so many years. It really doesn't get said enough that to produce something as excellent and polished as this game there is a human cost involved. It is a cost in time, in mental well being, in abusive labour practices for everyone involved. The senior team here are all charming people, but there are plenty of hints here about just how hard they had to push their team to realise this vision.

@@Mrjmaxted0291 I know I hate crunch but I think respecting developers would be better because then they know their hard work paid off. I’m just tired of developers getting all this hate and death threats because of a certain part of a game or if a game isn’t amazing then they get hate. Not having respect isn’t going to do anything besides discouraging developers even more.

"You will always be.. A monster" "I know" 1:31:50 I will never know why they didn't put that cut/version into the game. That would've put so much depth to Kratos. Like in all of his games, everything he has done and gone through, the only thing that is able to just crack his voice is knowing he will always be a monster. That voice crack from kratos means a suicidal depression to another person and you know that, you get a glimpse of how much he always has to push down.

I'm only like ten hours into GOW, and I LOVE the dialogue change. I didnt see the E3 before this documentary, and I have never played GOW before so I didnt know what to expect. But one thing has stuck with me so far is Atreus' and Kratos' smart quips. Atreus "which way?" Kratos "in the direction of deer" From someone who hunts in real life, this quip definitely made me chuckle. 11/10. Excellent game. You have set the bar for video games into the foreseeable future!

Hideo Kojima doesn't deserve his hype if you ask me. It's become clearer and clearer as time wears on that he's suffering from George Lucas syndrome. What made the Metal Gear franchise so enormously successful and popular was team he surrounded himself with. Guys like Yoji Shinkawa have been knocking it out of the park with the art design that made Metal Gear what it was CONSISTENTLY for the better part of 25 years now. Those aspects are just as integral to the success of the franchise as Kojima.

We need this for God of war ragnarok. This story touched my heart. It is a human story that reflects real life experiences, yes the mythology doesn't match up perfectly, but it's so grounded that it doesn't matter. It's a human story about humanity told through the prospective of a God. I love the story you gave us barlog. Typing this after beating ragnarok, and I have to say. Well done my friend, well done.

Cory Barlog is one of the ONLY people to actually make something positive with that whole mindset of “having a kid is the best change in your life!” Which is normally *SO* annoying because its like, who cares you had a dumbass kid?! This is the only game I've ever played where I sat through the ending credits, reading every name, not trying to skip them. In the era of buggy releases and half-baked garbage live-service games, God of War truly shines as a reminder and beacon that video games can still be made with passion, they can be big, they can be of good quality AND have a ton of content, and they can still tell great stories. I'm looking forward to Ragnarok, but I want Santa Monica to take their time, do it right, and keep their sanity.

This God of War was the proof that a well crafted game, with the right time to develop and A GOOD STORY backed up by a good gameplay can sell super well even if it isn't an open world multiplayer online with craptons of microtransaction created in clutch timing 1 year after the other (as someone in the industry said). It's the testament that people still want a single player experience, if it's well crafted. Always be one pf my favorite game. This thinking should be applied also to other media like cinema. GIVE CREATORS TIME TO DEVELOP THEIR PRODUCT, IF IT'S GOOD WE CAN WAIT MORE TIME

For as long as i can remember, my mum always said "you finished on that game yet?" "Turn it off, come downstairs" "Please pause that game." But then she popped her head in as Kratos was burning Faye. From then on she watched it like a film as I played it, occasionally asking questions, every now and then a "WOAAAH!" This was the first game she said "I really enjoyed watching you play that." She didn't live to see me play Ragnarök. But I really hope she'd enjoy it as much as she did the first one.
