The video shows the demonstration of “PLC Based Product Sorting Machine”, which will allow you to automate your product sorting process. Manual product sorting can be very hectic for huge manufacturers as it needs a great man power to sort the products, but with this machine you can automate your sorting process and can save lots of time as well as money. The machine uses a powerful ‘Programmable Logic Controller’ (PLC), along with color sensors which gives it the color sensing ability while sorting out different types of products. The machine operate with the help of pistons making it more accurate and precise while sorting things out. This machine can be very use from a small scale to huge manufacturing companies.

are there any sort of sensors capable of sorting by wieight? or a more mechanical aproach rather than using electronics? also, can the pneumatic pistons be set to push at a lower force?

Well it would take a whole lot of gears and mechanisms to do this mechanically... unnecessary increasing costs... Well thats why electronics is needed| Yes Pistons stroke speed can be controlled using regulators

You can use loadcell to sort objects by weight. Loadcell is a weight sensor which is usually used in electronics scale :D
