Got a question, without using a software or a computer, can I just insert an SD card program backup (power up mode) into a new PLC? And if so, I can just take this SD card out without a problem? And one more question, does the SD card program backup also hardware config including IP address and everything ? Thanks.

Does “User Initiated” mean the image is restored within 5000 using the Store/Restore window?

Yes. Or you can load the program via a sequence of holding down reset button and power cycling (depending on the exact model) you have.

is it possible to maintain a copy of the current program that is in the PLC memory to the SD card automatically? maybe, like right after a power cycle. My client requires the sd card as a backup if the PLC loses its data

How to read and write SD card in Siemens S7 300
@АндрейСидоров-ц3ж4 жыл бұрын
Honestly speaking, I haven't seen any advantages, to load programm from SD-card, you need PC with Studio5000 or RSLogix5000. For example, in Siemens you can store the programm to SD-card, insert in PLC and with switch go in RUN, and PLC download programm from SD automatically without any connection to software. I think, you understand what I mean.

I agree with you and did mention the same thing toward the end of the video. I'm not 100% sure why multiple people asked me to talk about this. That being said, I do see how if you have such a backup at a small facility, they can stick this into another PLC and just transfer it over? Somewhat better than keeping it on a technicians PC I guess...

What will happen if I remove the SD card and fixed back, is there anything will happen to PLC while it is online? Tanx
@MrSanbonsakura4 жыл бұрын
nothing will happened it will boot up from internal memory storage. But if you make a change in the code and power cycle it will load up code from SD ( by default config) and you will loose all changes. That's why you taking SD after you done with commissioning. At least if's one of the way to deal with headache

We had a L30ER processor fail, and ordered a new one for replacement. The program was saved on the failed processor's SD card (program backup isnt stored anywhere else). Can I upload the program from the SD card on the new processor without flashing the matching firmware version the program was developed on? Or are there any additional steps I need to consider prior to the upload?

You would definitely need to flash the PLC to the same firmware level as the program you have loaded on the SD card. I believe that by default it won't load the program; you'll have to configure the PLC to take it on bootup.

@@SolisPLCone blown away for getting a response from a year old video, that's awesome! Now, when I go to flash the replacement processor to V24.0, can I leave the SD card (has the only backup program) in the processor or will it wipe the card?
@SolisPLC3 жыл бұрын
@@jeromeschulte1297 I don't believe that it will wipe the card as the process of loading the software onto it is different. However, I haven't tried it myself; I typically flash new controllers with the SD card in place, but there's no program on the card. Personally. I would recommend creating a backup regardless of what you're going to do. Don't let the only place you have the program be on that SD card!
