If his story is true then he will definitely go back to scamming. Sure he got some money for cleaning up the streets but that was a one-off payment that will likely never happen again. Brits have to deal with scam calls like this a lot, but my friends in Denmark all say they don't ever get bothered by this stuff, since only 5 million people in the world speak Danish, and are almost entirely in Denmark. Nobody can fake a native Danish accent too as it's insanely hard despite myself learning for 9 years. Not even other Danes can fake a true Fynisk accent, so it's obvious if someone on the phone isn't Danish, even if they're perfectly fluent. The curses of creating the world's lingua franca...

What I have come to realize is that people expect everyone else to be on their level. A dumb scammer thinks everyone is dumb. A smart person thinks everyone is smart. It's all assumption until proved wrong. I don't know the psychology behind it but this is what I have seen over my past 66 years of life.
