Your beliefs have nothing to do with what you are singing. There are songs about destruction, suicide, horrendous conditions etc. and just because you sing about it, it doesn't mean you believe in it. He probably did it because his fans want he to sing all songs that are meaningful, beautiful songs, he doesn't need the money anymore.
