They are not related. Cheng is kind of a stray kid after his parents died in the earthquake. Xiao Ling kind of took Cheng in as kind of older sister. Then you have Lu Guang who becomes friends with Cheng over some basketball which you have already seen. This was something that probably happened maybe a year or 2 ago. It isn't clear much after that. I can only assume that everyone's friendship have blossomed after that.

I have watched the whole series and I am still confused about how Lu became Cheng's friend, they have given us some hints but still I can't connect all the dots.
