A tip for playing any Corsair variant: Their landing gear is very strong and was used as dive brakes for dive bombing. This is modeled in game and quite handy when bombing with the AU-1.

To extend the dive brake, move the landing gear control into the "DOWN" position of the dive brake slot; this extends the main landing gear only, leaving the tail wheel retracted. To retract the dive brake, move the control to "UP".

I learned about it on a short documentary video about the Corsairs, then checked the War Thunder wiki for the breaking speed for the gear: it's 730kph. Then tried it with both the Corsairs I have unlocked and the Premium ones that can be test flown: the gear doesn't brake a lot, but allows to recover from dives faster and makes the turns more agile, especially taking into account the low speeds at which the flaps break.

As an AU-1 player myself I use the 6 500, 2 1000 and 1 2000 pound load out and tbh it’s useless. The load out he is using is way lighter so it could pull out of dives and deliver everything way easier so your point is valid for only the lighter load outs and not the heaviest ones u could put on there but good info

@@lastnamefirstname5708 It is , the amount of rockets and bombs this thing can carry , it can't turn in 22 sec . This torpedo bombers have a wheight of 5.5 tons emtpy , a Bf109K has 3 tons . This heavy plane turns almost as good as a light agile fighter , this is just WT bullsh*t . Odd complains about that it's a brick , thank god this thing can actually fly with that ordnance on .

Also, a lot of pilots dropped their bombs when entering a dogfight. Another problem is that the tanks can't hide anywhere. So it's unfair to begin with.

Bombing doesn’t mean you can’t kill a few fighters as well. Use the AU-1 to ground pound but usually kill 1-2 fighters through head-on or outmaneuvering, Japanese planes are bad matchups when they have altitude on you though cause no matter your energy or flap usage there’s no outmaneuvering them. Might be biased though since players who target ground pounders usually aren’t as good or try-hard as the ones who climb and stay high.

Fun fact about the au-1 corsair, since its a corsair many people think it was made and designed during the world war 2, but in reality it was the last corsair to enter american service, and it was designed and tested during the korean war, and instead of fighter was redesigned as an strike aircraft, thats why all that payload.

I have the AU-1, got it from the 279 (which I bought a little later for like $50) and it is an absolute blast. The max bomb payload is half-meme half-actually-pretty-damn-good. I always run the 6 500s, 2 1k's and 1 2k, carpet bomb a little with the 500s and get heavies/multikills with the larger ones. I would use the HVARs as much as I love them for dunking on AAs but between 10 HVARs and 6 bombs, I'll take the 6 bombs. The guns are typically plenty enough to deal with AAs in my own experience, not to mention how absurd they are in ATA combat. Now in Air RB, this thing is just a lower tier A2D. Pretty speedy, good bomb load, air spawn, dangerous to get in front of but not the greatest in actual air combat. Its a great grinder down low, too bad its over $300. Glad I got it when I did...

The AU1, skyraider and Mauler have ordnance weight around 4500kg maximum which is unbelievable considering an IL2 and IL10 have 625kg and 600 kg respectively and a firebrand, firefly or wyvern have between 1000kg and 1400kg.

20mm get through most tanks with surprisng ease when fired from a plane, the roof of tank turrets and chassis isn´t thickly armored to save weigth, and the majority of threats to a tank comes from the ground level, not the air. It´s also the reason why the A-10 and the Su-25 are so famous as they exploit that weakness.
