One of my favorite actresses! Loved her in The Journey with Yul Brynner. Also love her in From Here to Eternity and Tea and Sympathy. All great films thanks to Deborah.

Been looking to see this movie, cannot believe that in all her career they had to give her an honorary Oscar, she didn't get one for any of her roles !

Another excellent video montage. I had never heard of this film. Now I will try to find a way to watch it. Thank you so much for sharing.

+LorreB Thank you. The film is not available except if you find some poor tv copy for sale on the net. But we can vote for its restoration and release by The British Film Institute. I hope you vote too (the link is in the video's description) until March 11. Thanks.

Just seen this Irene so I'm unable to vote I do so hope has been restored

Sadly, it hasn't been. The film that "won" the right to be restored as a result of this voting process is one directed by Peter Sellers. I still hope that the BFI will consider restoring it in the future.

Rupert Bear by Gabriel Yared from The English Patient. Took me a bit to remember!

never saw it, i am ashamed to say, because it was not shown here. and i interviewed Miss Kerr twice, and heard her gently complain about the lack of offers at that time. she wanted so much to have Tom Stoppard write " a really good mother part" for her to play. alas, it did not happen. Assam looks good. from the clips. best of luck in restoring it. a movie critic friend of mine i really detested as a person, proclaimed it Kerr's "performance of her career." perhaps it is. the real question is, besides us discriminating folks, does anybody really care?

It was one of the rare worthy roles she got in the '80s. It's an intimate film, very atmospheric, that shows her acting range, because her character is a bitter, unpleasant older lady who softens gradually because of someone who knows how to become her friend. It's really an unusual role for her, compared to the Hollywood ones and very interesting to watch. The British Film Institute had last year a "competition" between a few films. The one voted the winner would get to be restored and released. Unfortunately it was not this one, but one by Peter Sellers, Mr. Topaze. I'm not surprised Assam Garden didn't win, but it's a pity, not only for Deborah's filmography, but also because it's a good film.
