Loved this so much! I've always enjoyed cold weather. Recently found out I'm mostly Swedish and Norwegian. Now makes sense! You are awesome to get outside and try painting on a beautiful chilly day. Keep up the great work!!

Amazing that you gave it a try. It would need to be 60* warmer for me to be out painting. You’re a hardy soul! Thank you for showing us what happens.

Hey Maurizio, thank you! Yes, I heard about that as well, but also that it might affect how the pigments spread…best is to try it though :)

Thank you so much, yes…it froze and it was really nice to see it frozen , then it melted, and then it dried up differently. It was a very different process, with many emotions involved ;))

Finally watched huddled up - glad you had gloves. I like the way you get the basics down and the colour. I wanted to see if the painting changed once in the warm and the ice melted. I was trying to think what I would do, having seen this. I have a metal handwarmer, which is gives off about 1 hour of warmth could use that to rest the palette on maybe. You were well equipped. Having done it, would you do anything different now you had this experience? Thank you

Hi Roberta, thank you so much for your nice comment and so sorry I’m replying so late. Yes, the painting transformed a lot once the ice melted and then dried. It became much more fuzzier and with a lot o granulated textures, more like an underpainting. But it make me remember that sunny day and so I like it a lot :) Nice, such a good idea with the metal warmer. My idea of sketching outdoors came very spontaneously, as it was such a beautiful day, so i really didn’t go so well prepared for painting with watercolor at this cold temperature… i guess maybe taking some warm water in a thermos, and use it partially for painting, combining it with the cold one from time to time :)

Wow! This made me cold 🥶 just watching it! Love how it turned out. Curious, are the paints in that palette okay now? I am wondering if exposure to cold for so long has lasting effects to the binder. Also, kudos to the camera person for braving the cold and risking his camera equipment!

Thank you so much! So happy you enjoyed it! I think so, the paints seem pretty normal looking at them, but I didn’t had time to actually test them now after being in the cold (yet)…Thank you so much, it was my boyfriend filming me, he really me helped a lot :)

Hot cocoa after being out on a snowy winter day is the best :)! How did the painting turn out when you got home, the ice on the paper thawed, and then dried?

Yes, it was the best!! 😊 Yes, you made a very good point with this question. The painting changed a lot, it became more blurred, not many hard edges left, with interesting textures, like granulation in a way 😊
