🎨 The making of “Blue Mountain Retreat,” by Elo Wobig 🖌️
Using a 3-second capture interval, Portland-based landscape painter Elo Wobig recorded this mesmerizing timelapse video showcasing the creation of “Blue Mountain Retreat,” an oil-on-panel piece painted over the top of a past work on an old canvas.
Filmed for Friends of the Columbia Gorge and Maryhill Museum of Art to promote the Pacific Northwest Plein Air in the Columbia Gorge 2023 event, the painting was begun on location at the Port of Skamania, looking back toward the hills behind the town of Stevenson. Though this work was completed mostly in the field, the wind picked up as is typical at the Columbia River Gorge, and therefore completed in the studio. Thus, it was not entered into the Plein Air 2023 competition.
