I also paint Plein air watercolor. I found the M Graham watercolor paints attracted lots of bugs! They are honey based! Just in case you have that problem…. Love watching you paint!

I’m just starting to get interested in trying plein air- I live in a city on a lake and want to paint those areas sometimes but I’m a little too shy still to have people seeing me paint, even if they’re just walking by. Anyway, my family is from Idaho (Idaho Falls area) and whenever I go back to visit I’m always surprised that not many people outside of Idaho seem to understand how beautiful it is there. My mom and I will explore out in the desert for hours. I grew up in western Oregon where it’s very green year round, but Idaho’s deserts and scrublands have something special, I think. It was a happy surprise to find your video while looking for other folks’ plein air setups.

I have a much more lightweight tripod that I am using now for Plein Air! But everything else is still the same! I love the wooden box with the adjustable angle

Hi, Tricia! The tripod is a construction tripod, borrowed. I now am using a camera tripod with the clip-in mount attached directly to the base of my wooden easel box. The easel box is a inexpensive one from Amazon, it’s on my plein air list

@@katieharrisartist a few things feel a bit scary, like what minimal setup would work, how to select the view to paint out in the open, how to deal with the changing light & shadow, people watching, seems quite challenging. I am scared but also excited with the challenge. I love being outdoors.

@@jaclee6 yes to all those challenges!!! I am still intimidated by the people watching aspect! I often try to choose a spot where I am not super obvious. It feels pretentious somehow🤣🤣 I love to use a toned sketchbook and do a quick value study to capture the light/shadow patterns. My latest video is on how I do this 😊
