Yes, I looked it up, and they had to shoot him because he refused to leave the child alone. All the other apes left the enclosure, but he refused to leave. For some reason, when they told the story at the time, they always left that part out. So it sounded like they got the child out, and then they just decided to shoot Harambe as well, for no reason.
