If you're planning on a long run, a little tip - items that decay, decay much faster sitting on the floor, and faster still outside on the ground. They decay much slower when stored in a container. Exception: meat, which decays slowest in below freezing temperatures outside, in the world's largest freezer (just outside is enough, does not need to be directly on snow).

@Dillon Owens I've looked at the item decay tables and no, they all decay fastest out of a container, slowest in a container, with the one exception being meat and fish, which decay slowest outside. Clothing will become wet and eventually frozen if stored outside, even in a container, so it you want to be able to use it later (eg a spare item in case something you're wearing gets ruined), best to store it inside, where it will decay the slowest and be instantly usable, rather then having to wait for it to dry out first.

@Dillon Owens Also, A quick correction to my own comment - I meant they decay faster outdoors and slower indoors, for most items, regardless of whether they're in a container or loose. Meat and fist is the reverse of that still. EDIT: I used to think being in a container made a difference but when I saw the tables, I learned that doesn't, but I guess the old assumption is so ingrained in me I sometimes accidentally still use it.

I won’t be playing this for 500 days or anything like that. The problem with storing in containers is once they hit 0 condition they disappear. If they are on the ground the remain, and can be harvested or repaired usually.

@@Accurize2 I've since found out and corrected my info on that in other comments - it's indoors vs outdoors that's the important thing for item decay rates. Also note that items like clothes don't vanish at cnd 0, even when in containers. I have a long run with many clothing items and bedrolls that have hit 0 while in containers and they're still there. The disappearing seems to apply to food, medicine and consumable tools like whetstones.

@@quintinb3248 This is more of a Northern Flicker woodpecker. Similar, but slower than a Pileated. Plus, the game takes place in northern BC, and the pileated woodpecker's range is in BC is only in the southern third to half or so of BC. *edit: *Flicker not Fricker. lol. Completely different meaning. Though, not far off considering they go north to breed.

Had a feeling that rifles may not spawn, but then I saw rifle ammo. Also don't miss: 1. Rope accessible area to the right of 1st set of lake cabins when looking from the lake. There are 2 caves in that area, one up and one below. 2. Lake overlook on the top of the mountain in front of camp-office. 3. Possible prepper cache spawn across the tracks from the camp-office.

@@Accurize2 and there are also none spawned in your gameplay. Setting the baseline resource to low does not allow for prepper caches to spawn in because the loot you'd be supposed to find in them would be unfair advantage, clearly not interloper loot. With baseline resource set to low you are basically playing interloper. You will find the rifle and revolver, but not the cleaning kits. What I'd suggest is to first level up your shooting skills using books so you won't waste much condition when you start shooting. Find them BOOKS!

Wish it wasn't too late to mention the weapon cache that might be close to the camp cabin. If it shows up in the version you get assigned, it is located by following the telephone poles from camp cabin to railroad and then go slightly to the left in the opening in the rocks, you go up the hill to ridge on the right and walk down it and it turns to the left to the bunker. The bunkers are changed in different version of this game. One in nine chance to get the weapon bunker.

Great to see your videos again. A fresh start is always great. The prepper cache you were looking for isn't on that little island. If you face the lake cabins from that island the cache is up the ridge to your left. All the way at the top.

As for food poisioning I got food poisioning from a chocolate bar, jerky, and granola bar all in one game. In the same game I was mauled by 3 bears, 5 wolves, a Moose, got cabin fever, and nearly died of all the close calls with the weather. I should've died about 17 times in the 3 months I played that run through. I survived and enventually died from a lose of blood by the 3rd bear attack. From my understanding any of the food that has low condition can give you food poisioning

I think the snacks all have a very low risk of food poisoning. I may have gotten sick from them collectively as many as 3-5 times in about 1200 hours of playing. So I usually find them worth the risk early when starved for calories, as long as I have an antibiotic or reishi tea handy just in case the improbably happens and I'm about to go to sleep for the night anyways and can just use that to sleep off the FP.

Items with condition of at least 75% will never cause food poisoning, except for raw meat. Some food items are also completely safe as long as their condition is over 20%, these items being: Beef Jerky, Condensed Milk, Dog Food, Energy Bars, MREs, Pinnacle Peaches, Pork and Beans, Salty Crackers, and Tomato Soup.
