L'épave du Togo est une des plus belles de la côte. Elle soutient la comparaison avec celles du Rubis, du Donator, du Liban ou du Chaouen. Dans une eau limpide, le bateau repose droit sur sa quille, amputé de son quart arrière.
Naufrage du Togo
Le sous-marin UC 35 est basé en Adriatique. Ce mouilleur de mines rôde en Méditerranée. Bien que de construction allemande, avec un équipage allemand, il est immatriculé U75 autrichien... La baie de Cavalaire lui convient, il y largue quelques mines de 150 kg chacune.
Le 12 mai 1918, à 6 mois de la fin de la guerre, le Togo heurte une de ces mines et coule immédiatement. La mer n'était pas mauvaise et l'équipage venait de dîner. A l'âge de 36 ans, ce vieux cargo qui fut fabriqué par des Ecossais dans un chantier britannique pour un armement français qui le destinait aux lignes espagnoles, fut coulé sous pavillon italien, par un sous-marin allemand, immatriculé en Autriche...
