Pile #2 here - I think the obstructive person in my life is ME. It’s my inner critic. This voice has overstepped her bounds all of my life owing to perfectionism, owing to insecurities, owing to a lack of foundation in childhood. I’m not blaming my parents; they did their best under stress and insecurity themselves. They didn’t teach me how to be my best self - their focus was on nagging, punishing, limiting, pointing out where I failed instead of teaching me how to succeed. However, they encouraged reading, physical activity, healthy eating, being responsible for my own actions. And isn’t that half the battle? Since I am a very old woman, I have learned other tools. Now I can listen to the critical voice in my head, and I can hear when it is just too much and blow it off as just another annoyance like a neighbor’s leaf blower or a noisy car cruising through my neighborhood to wake me from sleep. It’s loud. It’s annoying. It’s a little scary, but I have learned how to hear it and let it go.

My dad is an alcoholic, I’m only 14 but he’s driving me absolutely insane, I can’t be myself and I can’t do anything about it, he has to change. Sure I give “attitude” but it goes a lot deeper, like you said there’s people (the rest of my family) who say that he’s not doing anything wrong but they don’t see what happens when they aren’t around, they just don’t understand. I went there and sat quietly waiting for my name to be called. Then he burst in fiercely out of nowhere and plucked the no. sticker off my chest, furiously saying, "You thief! How dare you come here, brat! You don't belong here!" To specify how furious he was, every male adult in the room literally had to jump right in to pull him aside.
