This lesson demonstrates how to use the new force_overlay parameter added in April, which allows us to force certain plot functions to draw directly over the chart even if they're called from a separate window (like an oscillator for example).

Great Video, and thanks for sharing! HOWEVER, I think I’ve found a bug in the force overlay function! At least on Mac using Chrome. I did a Bollinger Band overlay (just copied the default TV BB code into my script, and deleted the “indicator” first line. Works great UNTIL you do a right click “Reset Chart View”. Suddenly the price bars disappear! Actually I think they scrunch into a line (like an aberrant zoom out). Nothing I do can bring it back, EXCEPT to refresh my TV window. Then it all comes back as expected. Scrolling and everything seems to work: just can’t Reset your view with the popup menu selection. Hopefully this gets fixed quick (if enough complain: hint, hint)

The plot() has the force overlay parameter, not the indicator/strategy. It should work, also you are free to test, it takes about 1 minute to test.

Thanks a lot for that important info. BUT... is is also possible in the opposite direction? I have a big script and I would have to change all possible plots. like.. overlay= false and this plot will shown in the external window. I tried it, but doesn´t work in this way. thanks

doing it backward will not be possible. If you have 5 plots, how do you tell the engine if you want 5 individual plot windows, or just 3, with the 5 plots drawn to specific windows in a 2-3 split or 4-1?

@@karatedog It could be very easy... a Plot have to has a name. So you can print, write, table.... EVERYTHING in a specific name. And it doesn´t matter if you have 1 or 10 different windows. force_overlay.windowname=true If there is no window with the windowname, then it will create a new one. If there exist already a window name, it includes that component in this window. Very easy and simple.

How do you expect it to work with labels, what is your expectation? Labels belong only to a bar, labels have never been drawn to a different window.
