Absolutely brilliant video. The commentary was good and informative; wish there were a lot more videos like this out there

Thanks Sam, that was very kind of you to say that. I ought to know a bit about ploughing though, I've done enough of it. But ploughing is a strange job. I once ploughed a field for 15 consecutive years for one of my customers and I reckon that every year it ploughed differently. The best is when you've ploughed it when it's bone dry one year and haven't mauled it when it's been wet. It will plough a treat the following year.

Thank you for sharing that. Im only seventeen and have been working on the family farm full time for about 8 months. I love learning everything i can and i really enjoy seeing the older kit working. I used to drive an international hydro 84 a few months back and to be fair i liked driving it more than some of these more modern tractors we have now

Thanks again Sam. Just go for it which is something you can do at your age. I am over half a century older than you are but I like to think I learn something new every day. It sounds as if you have set your mind on some sort of farming career and I will pass on some words of wisdom that a lawyer friend once said to me. He was a very clever and well respected man but he said that he envied me. When I asked him why he answered " because you have spent your life doing exactly what you wanted to do" And I now know he was right. Just being outside, working with the soil, the weather, the wildlife etc. What more could anyone want ? It's not all about money but I admit that the stuff acts as a lubricant some days !! Good luck whatever you do.

hydrashift box was bloody marvelous ,shifting under load was as good as many modern semi auto boxes

Agree entirely with that comment. I had quite a few H-Shift tractors from new and as long as you looked after them then they looked after you.

Joshua Tomlinson Thank you Joshua for those kind words. When I was farming as well as contracting she was a really useful bit of kit. She doesn't do as much work these days but always fires up and is ready when I ask.

Great video seeing a classic at work and working well, only ever drove a 1694 hydroshift for one day when we had one on demo great gear box 💪💪 ended up with a ford 7610 instead 😕

Thanks for hte kind words Robert. Glad you liked the video. Hydrashift was a brilliant box but then David Brown were market leaders in gearboxes for all sorts of vehicles.

@m648mvp 1594s were the last to go down the line on 09/03/1988. Lots of tractors sold after this because word got out that production was ending and DB and their dealers had a stockpile of tractors.

Tractor and plough like new credit to the owner not many like that around anymore !
@scooby73465 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jimmy. Used to do a fair bit of ploughing with it when I was contracting, hence the many sets of mouldboards. Last time I used it I cleaned the soil engaging parts off meticulously and then sprayed it all up with proper Dowdswell green. Almost like new now and I doubt I will ever use it again. Everything used to be ploughed but not any more. Different era and I count myself very lucky to have been there.

@@scooby7346 pity David brown stoped makeing tractors .Was at meltham 2015 for switch to selectamatic massive factory.shame to see it not makeing tractors!
@scooby73465 жыл бұрын
@@jimmymannion6874 Yes, great shame but that's progress. I used to go up to Meltham for tractor bits if needed urgently and sometimes up to Leigh for DB reversible plough bits.

@scooby7346 o right thanks , there will be a plate telling me the date of manufacture ?
@scooby734614 жыл бұрын
@rakerman Thank you. It was a bit of nice dirt. When I was near the end of the field I fetched up a very large piece of stone that two of us could only just move with an iron bar to get it into the loader bucket. I was ploughing the field for a neighbour and they reckon that the piece of stone had been a nuisance for many years.

iv just got a 1394 commemorative edition on a F plate , must be one of the last ?
@scooby734613 жыл бұрын
@m648mvp There is a VIN plate on the bell housing that will give you the serial no. But I don't have build records for 1394s.

Thanks d4c24a. No, your eyes are telling you the truth. The exhaust does wobble. It's a poor design. I have to keep dribbling a few spots of weld on the bit of the manifold that it fits on to and then I get too much on and have to grind it off. !!!
