Plovdiv, Bulgaria 1978 (silent super 8mm film)

Description:
The filmmaker is in Plovdiv in Bulgaria. We see general views of the city with a panoramic shot as well as the river Evros, also known as Maritsa, A short shot of the NOVOTEL PLOVDIV hotel and the lens focuses on a woman who photographs the landscape with her camera while showing us views of the old town. Then, the woman visits the Regional Ethnographic Museum and with the camera showing us the impressive building.
Afterwards, we see Bunardzhik Hill and the woman waving at the filmmaker and showing him the Alyosha monument, an 11-metre (36-foot) tall reinforced concrete statue of a Soviet soldier which is on a 6-metre (20-foot) pedestal lined with granite. The memorial commemorates Soviet casualties incurred in Bulgaria (which had been an Axis ally) in World War II. The filmmaker records the memorial while a wedding is taking place at that moment with the lens following the newlyweds as well as the guests.
The film closes with a panoramic view of the entire city from the height where the filmmaker is.

I did not know that the Novotel hotel was so old. I had my high school prom there. Spent a lot of time hanging at Alyosha and the Amphitheater. The whole spring and summer of 1992 we were hanging out at the amphitheater every single day.
