Even with Rosalind Plowright who is a very interesting singer using of all the different rules of belcanto in a great level we actually understand the huge challenge of singing Bellini's music. The voice suits apparently well to the score of Imogena but the singer is at moments struggling with it in the vocalizing of the central aria for example or at the end in the ascending and descending scale. But the result is obviously one of the best interpretations of this scene without reaching the incandescent beauty of Callas's singing.

Quand la Callas aurait-elle pû chanter avec une beauté incandescente, avec son célèbre timbre laid et ses hénnissements éperdus si pénibles à écouter? Tout d'abord je voudrais vous signaler que le fait de prendre toujours la Callas comme référence est tendencieux. Vous partez d'un préjugé comme prémisse et vous débouchez à une conclusion érronée. Le XXème. siècle a été prodigue en matière d'excellentes cantatrices lyriques de toute sorte, chacune avec leurs particularités et styles interprétatifs. Excusez-moi Monsieur, mais je perçois le fait de comparer tout le monde à la Callas, comme si elle était le référent absolu, comme une attitude arbitraire. Rosalind Plowright n'a pas eû besoin de publicité consumériste pour donner témoignage de sa condition d'excellente cantatrice et du fait qu'elle avait parfaitement compris quelle était l'essence du Bel Canto. Belle voix bien placée. Belle Soprano Dramatique Collorature mais malheuseument pas aussi connue comme elle le méritait. Tel a été le sort aussi de plusieurs cantatrices que nous redécouvrons parfois au fil de nos déambulations informatiques. Mais cessez s.v.p. d'évoquer la Callas. On en a que trop souffert à l'époque de son vivant pour que nous ayons encore à subir la Callasmanie à notre époque. Il est évident que tout celui qui n'apprécie pas d'autres cantatrices contemporaines et ultérieures à la Callas ne remarque pas les nuances affectives qu'elles ont exprimé à l'occasion de chaque personnage qu'elles interprétaient. Car la voix humaine, c'est cela. Le chant rend témoignage de la beauté intérieure, de l'univers affectif du chanteur, ce qui l'a rendu capable de comprendre et d'interprêter l'intention particulière que le musicien a sû exprimer au moyen de la musique. Et puis je ne suis que trop fatigué que d'écouter ou de lire des allusions au supposé caractère "dramatique" du style interprétatif de la Callas. Merci.

​@@pedromiguel2675Je ne peux pas écouter Callas. Son timbre est horrible et elle n'a pas de technique. Sa carrière a été très courte. Elle a vite été dépassée par des chanteuses bien meilleures qu'elle.

16:33 c'est une bonne interprétation vocale et expressive . Malgré tout on la sent peu à l'aise dans les passages d'agilité .Mais c'est à la hauteur de cette musique si difficile .Elle ne peut toutefois égaler Caballé et Callas dans ce rôle .

Bien pero comparandola con maria callas queda completamente disminuida callas fue unica y en esta aria hizo una vetdadera creacion cantaba no solo con la voz sino con los ojos las manos a cada palabra le daba la entonacion precisa de ternura de desencanto de locur ...brava maria soprano absoluta unica un monstruo sagrado una diosa divina
