I can answer one question. The reason we see deserts only on the western side of a country or continent is because the monsoonal winds lose moisture by the time they reach the western parts, and hence receive scanty rainfall. Whereas the eastern parts receive heavy rainfall due to high moisture content in the monsoonal wind.
