I'm sure that the war depicted isn't actually based off of anything, but here I go. TLDR near the bottom along with my input on PTSD. Now here's my braindump :P I'm going to refer to the veteran as "he" because I'm too stupid to figure out his name for myself. There's not a lot to go off of here. I haven't done much studying on uniforms, so I can't tell if the camo used in the video is made up or has actually been used. Usually there would be a patch on the shoulder pointing out the country or unit, but that's not visible either. I'm a gun nut, and can tell that the gun isn't something an actual military uses unless the guy is some sort of rebel/guerilla fighter using an improvised firearm, so that's out of the picture. What can I go off of though? Well, clearly the guy's in a desert. We can assume these things about the country he is in, 1. He is in the deserty areas of the US (ex. parts of California, Oregon, Nevada, basically most of the west coast.) 2. He is in the deserty areas of Asia (Parts of Mongolia, India, China, Kazakhstan, etc.) And if you count the Middle East, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, etc. And the most likely, the deserty parts of Africa, the most likely in my opinion, such as Mali, Western Sahara, Algeria, etc. Why is it the most likely? As an Asian American, you'll take note that when you go to Asian countries or see videos of people travelling to Asian countries that there aren't that many black people, at least compared to Western countries like the US, France, UK, etc. Honestly I never noticed it until years later. Plus, the US has not had a war >DEFENDING< against a *foreign enemy* in YEARS. Do not mention the Afghan war, or some protest, or anything like that. I'm saying DEFENDING against FOREIGN ENEMY. You could argue that this is a made up 2nd American Civil War. I find that unlikely. He looks to be more "official" rather than a rebelling citizen. Assuming he's a government official or in some way involved with the government, the rounds being used seem to be explosive by the way they impact the literally bulletproof wall behind him and make a large flash instead of throwing small shrapnel or whatever. Knowing doomsday preppers that openly despise the government, most will not use explosives unless it is against armored vehicles or to scare the hell out of enemy patrols or positions. That's just logic. This may be stretching it, but there are no vehicles in his area, and even if there were, the explosives would be shot towards the vehicles and not him. Plus, the world he lives in afterwards looks way too calm for a 2ACW situation. Furthermore, while I don't put my study time into uniforms, I still take note of colors. From what I can make out, the colors are somewhat green. In the DESERT. The only two countries that I'm aware of that do this despite their military budget are the United States and France (I could be wrong as hell). I can also tell that he is using a more modern plate carrier, possibly the IOTV, which according to General ARSOF History, wasn't in widespread use until the 2010's, for the US at least. (If you wanna see for yourself, the article is called "This Vest May Save Your Life" US Body Armor From WWII To Present). With this in mind, I don't think that he's from the US. The US's digital UCP camo used in the Afghan war was digital, and the camo in the video isn't. You could argue that the US had M81 Woodland during the Iraqi invasion, which is true, but again we're assuming this is around the 2010's based off of the plate carrier. The first Iraq invasion ended in 1991, and the second invasion, they had desert camo but M81 flak vests, or if you were US Army, UCP with UCP IOTVs during the time it was adopted. So what country could this guy be, assuming he isn't foreign legion or a PMC? He could be French or Malian. I say this because the Mali War of 2012 takes place in, well, 2012. While France pulled out in 2022 the timeline still adds up with the use of plate carriers and the use of woodland-like camo in the desert. Read up, or watch a few videos of the Mali war. I'm leaning more on the idea that he is Malian and moved to a more developed country to escape the hell that was his country, or might be staying in it still. This is because even the French are smart enough to bring tan plate carriers instead of black ones. You can also see that there is no night vision goggle mount on the helmet, making it more likely that whoever gave him his equipment didn't have much funding. Most of the time I judge a military's funding by equipment. Compare the equipment that he has to something like the United States, and you'll see many differences. I could also see someone saying he is a private military contractor, so the funding comes from his pockets, hence why his kit is an in between of low and high defense budget. TLDR, he's either French army, Malian army, or private military contractor based off the reasons listed above. All 3 have different commentaries on how PTSD can be caused and/or affects the person. Let's say my theory is correct and he is in Mali's military. This would show that no matter what you think of the other side, you are still fighting someone who could've been your next-door neighbor, or maybe you passed by them while grocery shopping. All because of a government's decisions, or because of the extremist group's ideology being extreme. You can hate on the extremist group all you want, call them subhuman, but there was still someone who was at least once human before you shot him. Promises are all it takes for someone to fall into a trap like that. Maybe you didn't shoot first, and it was them that shot you. You'd still feel guilt, because you'll be thinking about how their actions got them killed, and you'll dwell on something you won't be able to change. Police officers in the US suffer such, and whenever I see the footage of an officer crying after shooting someone they didn't want to shoot, I feel the need to cry with them. Maybe he is French or a PMC and doesn't have to pay for a plane ticket out of there. This could mean two or three different things. The person still feels guilt for shooting them. I forgot to mention this, but every life you take in war is someone's family member away. Maybe even someone's friend. Or maybe it's the other way around, the guy feels bad that someone he knew died. When you're in the military, you'll be forced to train with your unit, and you'll be forced to like that person because you won't be able to change units. Though some people you can make friends with easily. When someone you genuinely like is the one that dies, then it strikes you the most. It's almost like losing a brother. why'd i make this again?

im not gonna lie i wasnt expecting someone to read much into that, i feel kinda guilty not looking properly into military equipment/war places (kinda want to redesing him to fit a little better now :]) and just to answer, he is actually from brazil army, it completely clossed my mind they have shoulder plates woops, but your theory about private militeray contractor isnt that far off! he originally was going to be one but i ended up discarting it after a while the desert part is supposed to represent like the biome "cerrado" ? its very deserted but i should have put some trees to represent it better. i chose soo because its common for brazil army to simulate wars on that biome to train soldiers i really love reading long texts so dw about the brain dump/ asking why you did that, i loved reading it!

@@Galazzyx honestly I felt like I was the only person that gave enough of a damn to even look into it. Don't add shoulder plates/shoulder pads. Just add Velcro patches, because I personally hate the use of shoulder pads, mostly because it does nothing but add weight. The enemy will have a higher chance of shooting your forearms. To be honest, I've only seen the Brazilian military in tiktok edits. Most troops from Brazil seem to use green plate carriers and a different camo pattern from what I saw in the video, but I did stumble across one Wikipedia image with a guy wearing a black helmet, night vision (in broad daylight), and a black plate carrier. By the looks of it he was either more elite or posing for the camera and took his airsoft kit to the photoshoot. I might actually stay on this channel just to see improvements on tacticool equipment, but don't stress it too much, since I know that kind of stuff is hard to draw.
@Galazzyx Жыл бұрын
@@AdamPerson even if its hard to draw i think its worth it to stay accurate. its just my first time drawing/representing a veteran oc so I was pretty lost looking at reference images/what exactly to reference, i will def take your stuff into consideration (specially the shoulder pads part! i never thought about it like that)

@@Galazzyx Late response. I can help find references if needed. Things I usually search up when I’m searching for wars are “Battle of …” or “… invasion”. Most battles I learn from finding a song or edit about it. For uniforms, equipment, etc. I search”[country] armed forces”. Wikipedia does a decent job in listing the guns certain military units use, though plate carriers are harder to identify. For lower tier military units, try searching flak vest, IOTV, Kevlar vest. For higher tier units, you could honestly just do “plate carrier”. As far as helmets go, Wikipedia should list some helmets. If not, just search “helmets used by [country] army/military/armed forces”. Quick note that practically every helmet made after the 1980s or so has a night vision mount, even countries that do not use night vision often. Almost entirely neglected the waist area. Knee pads are useless unless you think Call of Duty sliding is important. Most military personnel do not have sidearms, but if you do, there are belt holsters and drop-leg holsters which are attached to the leg. Low end military units don’t have kitted battle belts, higher ones do. Many KZbinrs have made videos on both plate carrier, helmet, and battle belt setups, such as Garand Thumb, T.Rex Arms, and Risky Chrisky (hes got some strong opinions tho). Wish you well on future endeavors. Edit: It’s not about how much you can carry, but how little you can carry. If you do not expect combat, don’t bring hella mags. If you do not expect night operations, don’t bring night vision, maybe a white light mounted on a gun will do. Hell, people even prefer using chest rigs over plate carriers and nonballistic helmets because weight means a lot. Though, one bullet can always mean your life. Mag pouches that can hold two mags can be bulky and inconvenient. Reasons why people don’t carry pistols often is because some would rather have more rifle magazines, since CQC is deadly, and you should be doing everything to avoid it. Urban operators cannot avoid CQC. All the information I have about equipment for now
