This was an eye opener for me - I don't have these problems, but I always wish I was better at mixing and mastering - but I love the creative process so much I just run with it and don't spend too much time mixing - this video made me feel a little better about that, because once I'm in the zone recording it's the best feeling in the world.

Looks like you’ve got it figured out! I’m glad I could provide some value, I’ll be doing some mixing and mastering specific videos soon, hopefully I can help in that regard as well.

Some people do get stuck in a cycle of miniature edits and micro EQing. They spend 2 hours recording and 2 weeks mixing to try and get a "perfect" sound, just don't tell them it sounds dead. They turn into MixZillas, like a BrideZilla but over their mix.

I did the same thing with plugins. Bought a couple of packs and committed to learning them. Before that, I had signed up for trails of Plugin Alliance, Izotope, and UA Spark. Spent two hours deleting all the trails and demos lol.

What are your current go to plugins that you find yourself using?

I only agree partially with your vision on this topic. When your basic process of music creation is always based on traditional songwriting, like: finding the melodies, the chord progressions, the tunes and rhythms and merging them in a fluid way to a new song, yes... then your vision is totally true. However, if you are - like nowadays is easily possible BECAUSE of plugins - are composing on basis of sound creation, by using unexpected but audible patterns running out of plugins that you stimulate in whatever creative way you can - for instance by running one single sound hit that you just recorded outside thru a new FX plugin - as result giving you a carpet of weird sounds or even automatically generated chord patterns.... You can become that composer who then delivers the craftsmanship to glue together all these waves, audio patches and unexpectedly exciting results, slowly growing organically into complete loops, song parts and eventually full worthy compositions. It's just another approach. A different set of tools. Another craftsmanship maybe even. But it still is writing music and finding a way to bring that feeling into the result.

I agree with everything you said 100%. I think I failed to aim this video accurately, I wanted to target more so at novice producers, engineers, musicians, etc. I’m trying to reflect on what stopped me from creating more when I first got the hang of production. I think many creators sometimes lose the fundamentals of creating when they start learning technically, both are very important. Again, I agree 100% and should probably do a follow up video on how much plugins can help us. I’m not anti plug-in at all, and do see them as a positive thing, I just see creators via social media being held back by the examples mentioned in this video. I appreciate the detailed compliment, if it’s okay with you I would love to use your point in the follow up vid

@@TrevBarnes I absolutely agree on this too. It is as it is... We are nowadays dealing with different ways of approach when creating music, leading to different results. But I do support your initial view in the video. Having to much technology and possibilities to deal with, can totally disturb and/or procrastinate that traditional creative process.

As someone lost inside Waves subscription plugins and Arturia collection, I couldn't agree more. Love your content and approach to music!
