In today's video, I give a brief intro to the Plugshare App and the Plugshare Trip Planner. I have a number of apps on my phone for use with my Nissan Leaf, but Plugshare is by far my favourite - and most useful. The trip planner is good for longer hauls and reviewing elevation along routes.

We just bought a 2022 Leaf SL plus & the dealership did a terrible job of explaining the charging to us.... I joined a Facebook group and EVERYONE recommended this app, so I really appreciate learning more. It's single digit cold in the midwest & we're traveling from IL to IA - we had NO idea that we'd lose a charge that quickly! (40% decrease driving 44 miles!!) yes we had the heat on , but still! Cold weather driving in an EV would be a great video (it may be out there already, but I haven't had time to look). Again, thanks & this video was very well done!

Happy to help. As a tip, using the "auto" function on the heat will use far more battery. I recommend heating the cabin, while plugged in (if possible), and then keeping the fan/temp as low as comfortable. The higher the temp/fan settings, the higher the usage. Also, highway speeds will use battery at a far greater rate than moderate speeds. If you are stuck for charge along your route, don't be afraid to drive less than the speed limit. People will pass you, and act annoyed, but it is better than them cruising past you on the side of the road.

Great review of the app. it is very helpful and I use it with my Nissan Leaf 2021 S Plus all the time. I have also used a better route planner, but plug share is better with what charging stations there are and comments on if it's working and cost. I use it far more then anything else. Again thanks you show me a few settings that have even made it better.

Derek. Wow, what a great video. I just got a 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV and LOVING it around town! But we do need to visit our daughter wh is 208 miles away, and rated at 247, so it's chancy. I've installed PlugShare on both my phone and computer and had seen an old video with the concept being you'd be able to use PlugShare to pay for a charge in a whole variety of chargers. That was an 9 year old video and obviously did not pan out. My question is exactly what are you doing to pay for charging through your phone? Yes PlugShare is an amazing app showing me where stations are along its Trip Planner tool, but in order to pay through my phone, I'm thinking I'm going to have to install and setup (credit card info, etc) Blink, Tesla, EvGo, .....you get the idea. Is this what you're doing and are you OK with a bunch of apps having your info? My second question is specific to the Hickory Run Service Plaza in PA with like 10 Tesla Superchargers. My car definitely has an adapter to plug into Tesla stations. But does that require the station have something called Magic Dock? I know Tesla began opening up charging stations to non-tesla cars at the end of February, but that doesn't help me know for certain if the Hickory Run Service Plaza chargers are there yet. This is the halfway point of my trip and crucial to us getting to our destination without running out of juice. That stop is right along the Pennsylvania Turnpike and even has food! IT SURE WOULD BE PERFECT!!!! Any suggestions on how I could find out ahead of time.

With the trip planner on plugShare is it possible to change from one road to another one, ex... I'm in Quebec, from Montreal to Trois-Riviere, I want to take the A40 Highway, then after a lunch in a restorant, I want to continu to Levis,Qc by the 138 that's a provincial route instead take the A20 Highway that PlugShare ask me to take...

Hello, nice video! I had one question, how can you pay via the Plugshare App?

You have to be at a station that allows payment via Plugshare. When I filtered specifically to look for that, I only see ones in California at the moment

Adding to Google maps forces a "gmail" eddress which is not on my phone. My PS profile shows the correct eddress but I cannot find how to change it for the "send to phone" function. Also, how do you edit of delete a comment posted in the "Check In" function?
@derekthornton
@derekthornton 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Not sure what you mean by "forces a Gmail address"... You do not need a gmail address to use google maps. You may need a google account, but you can set one up with any email address. As for editing a checking comment, not entirely sure if you can to be honest. If you can, my thought would be to go to the station and look at your check-ins on that particular station.

I designed 4 routes on my macbook and expected them to be identical in my plugshare app on my iphone. They weren't and, in fact, useless. I used your suggestion to email the route to myself which worked but I don't want the route in google maps - I want it in plugshare on my phone. Shouldn't this be possible ?

My point is what value does it add to the message? Level 3 is faster than Level 1. That was the entire point. Knowing whether or not it is DC or AC, to the average person, does not matter. All they care about it the charging times.

@@derekthornton Hi, you must be religious. Thick headed. Why is the truth and facts so hard for you! JUST say, level 1 and 2, then you have DC fast charging. DC FAST CHARGING also has a level 1 and 2. No public Vehicles can use level 2 DC fast charging as it's over 350+ kw.
