Why do you not put anything behind the shingle when cutting it? A simple piece of flashing or even a piece of cardboard will help prevent damage the piece underneath it.

I thought you had to go under the paper? And I thought you had to caulk all your nails? And I thought you had to reglue the shingles back to the flashing? This looks to me like it's going to leak like crazy! Can you shed some light on these questions? Appreciate it.

Those 2 nails exposed won't be a leak problem? I might want to throw some silicon under the flange before I nail it down. It just me though. Thanks for your video!

Pretty certain that roof is gonna leak.

I liked the way you did this, it's different than some of the others.. but you did not use roof cement when putting in the vents. Is the roof cement necessary? Many of the others use it and I am wondering. Thanks for sharing!

Maybe in more extreme climates, I’m in the Pacific Northwest and been putting in vents like that for years. Thanks for the comment! 😎👍🏽
@RayMoser6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I'm gonna put a roof vent in like you did.. except we get a lot of wind where I live, in the valley off of a big mountain range so 10-20 mph winds with gusts up to 40mph all the time.. so think I'll use roof cement too.. like how clean your holes were.. better than I saw here locally with the roofing companies..

Thanks for the video. Why don’t you use hook blades when cutting the shingles?

glen fry I think he’s not a roofer so having curved blades for him is a waste.

Weren't you supposed to run the flange under the shingle for the full length of the side of it, such that the nails you drove in are under shingles and not open to the sky, and all the rain that comes from it? What about sealant applied to the bottom of the flange before you secured it to the roof?
@RemodelGC7 жыл бұрын
+tempest411 - It probably could have been installed under the next shingle true. I chose to stop there. And the nail heads could use a bit of silicone on them. I don't ever apply any sealant under the boot because if water is getting under there than it's game over. Thanks for the comment!
@joshuahethcote79855 жыл бұрын
Not sure where the hell your from our what state? But the national plumbing code is minimum 3" VTR! For those that dont know, its " vent through roof"! That looks like a 2" caulk boot. Not a no caulk. You should've black jacked the flange and nail heads. This is not how to do a VTR folks ..
@MrPatdeeee4 жыл бұрын
Amen, amen and AMEN! Plus, NEVER nail any where on the exposed part of the pipe flashing. Reason: Over time the nails will rust (even when caulked) and water will go through the holes that the nails make. This will cause leakage into the house. Oh indeed yes. One of THE major reasons for leakage in roofs. Sadly, MOST roofers do this. For every true, honest professional that does NOT nail the bottom of the pipe flashing; thousands will do it. Sad, sad and SAD!
@MrTrevortf2 жыл бұрын
Everyone is wrong. It's half the diameter of the the drain pipe it serves. Most drains are 3"-4" which makes is 1.5"-2". Doesn't change the fact that this is a piss poor shoddy be roof install
