Thanks for the very informative video. what if I have a combined problem, the water (Cold&Hot) are very slow and when open the hot tab, the hot water takes alot to come in. should i use 2 pumps in this case aslong with the by-pass line or the circulation pump with the by-pass line would be enough?

Check you water pressure. you may have corroded pipes if its and old house or a pressure regulator that not turn up if it new.. could be a lot of things

great vid as always thx...you mentioned it would be best to "pre-plumb" for the circ pump...would that just require an extra return line at the furthest tap with a Tee fitting? then another Tee fitting at the cold water inlet at the water tank? and a check valve? could you please describe?

I watched a different video and they tap into the hot water line, and connect the pump at the tank drain valve

corret you tap into farthest hot point in home and send it back to recirc pump tied into bottom of water heater and just replumb the spicket off a nipple and a tee

while i understand (i think) the way the sistem works, what is preventing the water than is returning on the cold line to backflow into the main line that's coming from the city(idk/i don't see if i have a backflow valve or the meter has a backflow valve)? The electronic part that goes on top of the tank is basically there to recirculate the water corect? So when it activates it's letting/recirculates cold water coming in because the valve under the sink opens. Doesn't that mean that the cold water coming from the city line is fighting the pressure from the return line to get in the water heater? I'm so confused and can't find a diagram on how this actually overcomes the pressure from the city water line and not combine with it(i understand there is no water displacement either so city water should not come in/combine. Theoretically). i would see this working if the recirculating pump would have 3 connections and a close/open valve inside: you would splice it in your cold water from main and water heater (that's 2 connections) and 3rd connection you would connect to your cold water line/ return line used by the under sink bypass valve/thermostat valve(that way when it recirculates, the main electronic valve is closed so no water from the main comes in and when you use a faucet the line feels a drop in pressure and opens the valve to let cold water flow in your pipes from the main line and stops the recirculation. what am i mistaking in my thought process? thank you for your time reading

Is the bypass necessary? Some pumps don't include it

Yes , unless you have a dedicated return line. The water has to circulate.

I would like to know why you disconnected the supply line from the sink. Why cant you use the supply line and go directly into the top of the valve and let your new supply lines go straight to stops? Also, is there any concerns about introducing cooler water into your water heater?

We have a tank heater, installing this system next week. Giving thought to using three comfort valves in the house. One at the furthest master bathroom sink, kitchen sink & guest bathroom sink. Hot water does take forever to get to these locations. Will more then one comfort value create unintended consequences?

I have a couple of questions: #1 So the pump runs sending the hot water to the sensor valve under the sink. When the sensor determines the water coming to it is hot, it shuts off dumping the water down the cold water line. When that sensor valve activates, does the back pressure in the pump line cause the pump to shut off - or does the pump just continue to run until the timer shuts it off? #2 with the pump off and not running via the timer, will tank water flow through the pump with the pump not running?

1) the pump just keeps running , it on a timer . you want to get the timer set as close as you can. but it wont hurt the pump to run. 2)yes. that is what it does

Be prepared for a dramatic increase in your natural gas bill. You will want to set the timer for ONLY the times you really need the instant hot water. That was our experience after installing this unit. Every few years, be prepared to replace the "balance" tube, also. Currently they sell for about $50.00.

That is an electric water heater... but yes, it will increase your energy usage .

Question: when the bypass valve heats and closes, does the circulator stop? I was under the impression that the pump works constantly unless shut off by the timer.

the pump continues to run until the timer cuts off. so you want it close to perfect timing.

Stupid question but I understand that connection under the bathroom sink would bring instant hot water to that sink but how does the shower get instant hot water? Does one of those valves have to be conmutó the shower water lines as well ? Forgive my stupidity

Hey User, great question! The water heater supplies hot water to all the places hot water is needed because those pipes branch off the main hot water line. That's the reason the recirculation pump is attached to the main hot water line.

The GPM is very low and your in a closed pressure system. I have put them in basements and they have done just fine on a third floor .

The system is essentially closed. Therefore you aren't needing to worry about head pressure. You aren't lifting the water, just circulating it. The crucial part is insulating the hot side plumbing. Otherwise the losses will be huge! A flow meter and digital monitor can sense the priority times and circulate the pump during peak demand. If you live in cold climate then insulate the cold side too.

Did you ever come up with a solution? I'm in the same boat, needing over 20ft of head. You need an industrial pump that costs thousands to get into those specs.
