Very interesting video calm voice, good tone, organized and informative. Is it possible to install pvc pipe backwards (drainage running away from sewer line). Why would there be orange primer used at ends of fitting. I have issue of washer machine draining into bathtub which no one can fit. The company "Just Plumbing" replaced old piping with pvc. Problem still continue so called a different plumbing company who claim pvc was installed backwards and wrong primer was used. So I went into crawl space and saw job for myself. So now with your video I'll be able to identify what was used but how are you able to tell which way is the flow going. Of course the first company will not honor this issue. So $ is on me.

Is there away to attach a bigger pipe to a smaller pipe?

Yes. A reducer coupling . but you don't want to go down in size on drain lines , only up in size.

@@PlumbingSolutionsLLC I'm hooking up a drain pipe. Because of elevation, I plan to use a reducer on a 4 inch flex drain to a 1 1/2 reducer. That will connect to a 1 1/2 pipe. I live in Phoenix. It barely rains but during summer, we get some monsoons and the water stays in my backyard for several days because the dirt is hard. So I planned to di this drain setup and reducer because of elevation and my brick wall that already has a pipe entrance for 1 1/2

Very good info. I have a 3" sewage main runs around my basement wall and flow outside. I plan to install a water softener in my basement and connect the softener drain hose to it. Can I use a 3"x3"x2" Y Tee (horizontal) with a 2" P trap, then connect to a 36" standpipe? You mentioned in the video the Y Tee only use in vertical. Thanks.

This was awesome! In my plumbing foundation course this week we have a fittings quiz and the point is to be able to identify them as they would be ordered. It's certainly a lot to wrap my head around... for this kind of piping when you order you would start with the sizes, then state the material, the thread or connection type, then fitting shape, right? For instance a 3" pvc cell core 90 degree ell? So useful to hear what order the size difference goes in. Bottom, top, side! Thanks :)

Thank you, I love your whole series of videos. You didn't explicitly say it, but may I infer that the sanitary tees are for directing drainwater from horizontal to vertical, while the Wye+street combo is for directing it from vertical to horizontal?

Good information. All the configurations for the DWV can get really confusing. This is helpful. On a side note: It appears that my local Home Depot no longer sells PVC pipes. My instructor had to purchase ABS pipes. I was told that they are trying to ban plastic pipes. Anyone hear anything similar.
@PlumbingSolutionsLLC7 ай бұрын
Pvc was getting phased out as far food packing . because it's a "hard to recycle" plastic. But, I haven't heard anything about pipe. we still get a truck load of it every week here in SC. States and Countys have different rules. They may have outlawed it in your area.

Awesome video. I'm sure I will use the wrong terminology. I need a type of PVC schedule 40 reducing coupler. On the three inch side it will receive the 3" pipe (female). On the 2-inch side it needs to be the male because it will go into something that receives 2" PVC. Does this exist? Thank you.
@PlumbingSolutionsLLC Жыл бұрын
we would call it a 3-inch slip by a 2-inch male. they make it but where can you find it I have no clue. you can get a three-inch coupling, a 3x2 bushing, a 2-inch male and make it.

Can you make holes for a 3 inch toilet waste line in a 2x8 joist? How do you pass this pipe from a second floor to a basement through the 2x4 top plates of wall tops?
@PlumbingSolutionsLLC3 жыл бұрын
A 3 inch pipe will go in a 2x4 wall (you got to be dead on the money) but, not the hub on the fitting.

But, you didn't mention which ones could be installed Horizontally. I would appreciate a clarification as to which fittings can be used in which orientation. Thank you!

Calling a regular 90, a short sweep or 1/4 bend is carried over from cast iron. There’s 3 90s in cast iron. There’s a 1/4 bend which is a regular 90. Then there’s a short sweep which is equivalent to the pvc sweep. They’re sort of the equivalent of two 45s together. Then there’s a long sweep which is an even more gradual bend. I don’t think I ever seen one in real life. I guess the equivalent would be like 4 22s together.
