Testing a Plumbing System DWV & Water

Testing your work is one of the most important steps in the plumbing installation. You will want to test your DWV plumbing and your water plumbing prior to completing your jobs. Anytime you cut into the plumbing system its necessary to fully test your work. There are many methods to testing a plumbing installation. This video will cover the most common.

You’re right, it’s usually jurisdictional. However, if you go strictly by code, the DWV system must be filled up no less than 10’ above the highest fitting. Typically through the roof. Many jurisdictions I’ve dealt with allow a stand pipe/riser above the highest fixture.

Did I miss something? Why no P-Trap on that washer stand pipe at minute 1:38? I also don't get why they're so far out from the wall. Also I don't see any securing clamps on the PEX pipe except where it extends from the wall.

I'm working on building a living space in my basement. I've had to relocate my Reverse Osmosis system. I'm start to wonder what I'm doing to the health of my hydraulic/ water supply system. e.g. To must negative, positive pressure? Do many turbulence via additional fixtures, elbows, couplers, etc. Suggestions?

Do you have to set your compressor to the 120 psi? Is there a Guage on the compressor to tell you how much psi you want or when to stop?

If you add water to vents, won't it just drain away? If it doesn't drain away, then you have capped the drain to keep water from exiting the house? And if you've done that, what's to stop water from coming out of sink drains when you fill up the vent with water?

at this point the sinks aren’t even there yet. the stub outs for the sinks are glued with test caps.

How about a test plug at a cleanout? Cap everything but the vents and just add water till it flows out on the roof. For inspection just Crack the water open with the inspector watching and he'll know that the system held water

You got to get up to 100 to pass. Now, don't do that to DWV it can only handle 25 PSI it will POP!!
