Very cool. For those interested, this is how the Germans often used the MG-34/42 on Laffette tripod in WW2. The Laffette tripod and MgZ optic and remote fire were designed specifically for this purpose, all while being lightweight enough to reposition and move somewhat quickly. One could almost consider this very light indirect artillery work done with an MG. It can function as an area denial tool. It’s very cool stuff.

basic thing to consider is that all direct fire weapons provide you with plunging fire because bullets inherently travel in an arc and plunge down, now the "indirect fire" method is masking fire. you are firing behind hard cover (probably a terrain feature), thats masking your general position from the enemy, you cant see the enemy but you have an observer offset from you that can see you and then provide adjustments.if you're not plunging youre grazing, and if youre not grazing youre plunging.

The problem sadly is that people never want or need to think about strategic gameplay, let alone teamwork. They only need to think reactively in a very small environment. This "box" they play in is devoid of any teamwork or strategy and its just a place to pew pew and thats it. This is why games like arma/tarkov etc have been in decline even right out of the bud. People are so used to just playing discardable games like bf/cod and so on. So this tactic - in the average gameplay environment - is sadly useless. This could only work on a multi clan gameplay environment, and even then it would be hard to pull off. All that being said, HOPEFULLY well see a bigger interest in people wanting to play with their minds more than their eyes and reactions. Kudos on the vid dude!

@@sneed777 But rarely do you see something apart from the norm happening, even in supposed ultra hardcore milsim servers. Most milsim servers are dead set on larping or power mongering instead of actually using proper procedures and tactics.

This is why I'd argue for a hit marker sound on at least a kill. I know it's a more arcade like game but Hell Let Loose has a hit sound for kills and even headshots when you're on artillery. It feels nice to have a little impact noise or a ding to let you know you're being useful. Because something almost all of these games lack is any kind of feed back as to how effective you are being. So as cool as plunging fire is there's always the chance that you're being completely useless with no way of knowing. And 99% of the time there's not a chain of communication from a squad that's assaulting, to their squad lead, to your squad lead, down to you who is supporting an attack/defense. Mostly it's just silence and maybe a random that will come and stare at you wondering if you're dumb or not. Bottom line is No one wants to feel useless. And that's what a lot of irl tactics can feel like in a game

Wonder if this would be better served by parking a few Humvees there instead. You can't get them close at night because the sound would give the assault away. They could give an opening volley of plunging fire before moving in when the fight started in earnest.

I always love doing this in arma. Just the thought of useing the tracers as a way to aim in and of itself is cool to me, i always like to do it this way to get more space and to see whats around me, plus the "plunging fire" tactic, i dont get why more players dont take advantge of armas relativey realistic bullet engine more ....

I do this in SQUAD. It's a lot easier to do there with instant range marks. Ideally you want a second with binoculars to correct fire. If you can set up 2 or 3 gunners with a good spotter closer in (easy for him to stay quiet and call out targets/corrections on radio) it can be super oppressive.

The truth is, they wouldn’t be able to see you 1000m away because the game will not render another player from all the way out there im pretty sure. They might have changed that now, I’m not sure though. Yesterday I got into firefights ranging from 500m and all I could see was the players body. The gun and the head where missing at that distance.

It's even better in squad but you need multiple position with good cover if you don't want to get sniped after your first reload. Nobody try to cross some open field in squad but you can also use an mg to burst a forest, all the enemy starts prone camping, looking that way while all your squad take the open field and flank them
