Awesome video, one qq though in the last example wouldnt it be avevano mangiato? Given that avere does not go with gender or nber of people?

Check video at 1:56. The verb is preceded by a direct object pronoun. Vero?

if I said " quando sono arrivato al cinema il film AVEVA già cominciato" will cause ripples or people will understand?

Il film ERA già cominciato Change the auxiliare verb from "avere" to "essere "

@@lorellacurione2110 Yes. I know - but why? I looked at a list of verbs that require essere. "Cominciare" wasn't on the list. Is it an idiomatic / colloquial kind of thing?

It's because it's used intransitively. The movie had begun, but I had begun doing something.

Can trapassato prossimo be used to talk about smth u have read like a text?

depends. trapassato prossimo like prof dave says means beyond the past. so you use it to talk about something in the past that happened before something else. for example “when i woke up my family had already ate breakfast” trapassato prossimo would be used on the action of eating breakfast since it is the past that happened before the past
