Yeah i was about to say what about Billy bat but someone already said it. Also his newest work asadora which is still ongoing is very good and i hope in the future this one gets a adaptation but first should come 20th century boys and after, Billy bat but who knows if these will get adaptions but i hope they do so all we can is hope, after all we did get pluto.

@@MusashiHeadSplitta As a fan of Billy Bat, I must say I don’t really see an adaptation happening for it. Like i don’t know why but to me it just feels like a hard series to adapt (even harder than usual Urasawa works). It just so weird and strange, and in many ways kinda alienating. Plus it doesn’t help that it is very very long which probably does not help its appeal to studios. Plus the original being such a celebration for the magic of manga it would be weird to watch the story instead of reading it. Still it would be interesting to see them try as I’d love to see the blend of the modern anime style with the old timey animation style. It would be so cool. I could see a 20th century boys anime being a possibility, even though it is also long it has a way bigger fan base who has begging for an anime forever. But at the very least I hope Billy Bat gets that official English release one day. I know that the all powerful mouse is scary but I know the bat can prevail.

Had insomnia last night and binged the whole thing in one night. I have never been on the edge of my seat and literally going like "NO WAAAAAAY" like I was with this anime. Someone please recomend more anime like this one for me to watch it was amazing

Psycho Pass 100%, it's a grounded sci-fi murder mystery show with a detective as the protag involving deep questions about AI, filled to the brim with plot twists. AKA, it's hilariously identical to Pluto, just without the political intrigue, but just as well written. Just ignore the disappointing sequels, the original stands well on its own.

I read the book back in the days and I remember the read being one of my favorite of all time and now being able to relieve it in animation form so beautifully, animated voice acting action scenes on points. Everything is just perfect I can feel all the love being poured into this anime and I’m just so thankful for all the incredible work that’s been done it’s genuinely a masterpiece and I think it’s frankly one if not the best anime of this year simply put. I mean it’s such a enjoyable, binge too because it’s eight episodes of roughly 1 hour and you get all the story it’s short, effective down and straight to the point I don’t have enough words to express how astonished impressed and in just utterly in love with this adaptation I am. thank you thank you to the studio to all the people who worked on it and I’m happy to be alive to be able to experience it genuinely anyway I’ll stop the ramble here

for me its undoubtedly the best anime in at least one year (since vinland saga). And it made it to my top 10 of all time. I love anime where there is a meaning behind it and is more plot driven than battle driven. Like for ex vinland season 2. The themes, ost, animation, characters, character development everything slaps

I need to read the manga. I grew up with Mega Man (heavily influence by Astro Boy), watching the 2009 Astro Boy film, and a fan of Blade Runner, so finding out this series was coming out and finally watching it was a treat. It's probably one of my top favorite anime of all time. This series is incredible!

Great review. I'm on episode 6 and so far everything is on point. It's a damn near shot for shot adaption. I'm ok with anime adaptations being different than the manga, but this is one of those cases where the Manga is a masterpiece, so why stray away. This will definitely ne added to the list of greatest anime shows of all time (or just shows in general)

For all intents and purposes they did a good job with Akira & GITS manga anime adaptations. Although I haven't read the Akira & GITS graphic novels so I'm open to being corrected as I've heard they are even better. Even still, the anime adaptations are both considered pioneering classics. (Don't talk to me about any live adaptions as I haven't watched them because I will become violently ill. 🤮)

@@PeterKnagge Akira and Gits are great examples. Both mangas are slightly and radically different from the anime (especially for Akira) In the end, It's all about making sure the writing is on point and keeping the spirit of the characters.

Almost all of urosawa’s works are made like a storyboard so making an one for one adaptation is perfect with his works. I really hoped monster could get that american live action bc i think its an perfect hbo true detective like series but i heard it didnt get the greenlight

@@xanderluu3876 I love Monster. Sadly I've only seen the anime. If I remember correctly, the US adaptation of Monster has been in the works for 10+ years. Hopefully the success of Pluto will give it a push.

I've seen two episodes so far, really good. Reminds me of Asimov's robot stories. My only gripe is I hate Netflix's subtitles, against white or pale backgrounds they are very hard to read because the white font has very thin outline. Crunchyroll's subs are much easier to read. The font setting only works on phones and tablets.

I love that in the end it was still part of Astro Boy world. Adventures Atom will have in future arcs will happen and those that happened, already happened. spoiler Here we see story of some side characters that doesn't have plot armor. When we watch normal super hero stories about Superman or Astro Boy. We know he will eventually win, but there might some side characters he won't manage to rescue. Making Gesicht main character worked perfectly this way, as he didn't have plot armor....

I'd read a few chapters as a child, but I was too young to really get hooked. I'm halfway through the series. The level of writing (plot and wolrd-bulding) and the emotion of the scenes is impressive. One of the best Netflix anime I've ever seen.

I just finished it and it really is a masterpiece! The story was complex and so many pieces that fit together into beautiful puzzle. I really loved the animation and how much detail there was in everything I saw. It's really a shame that they didn't really talk about the first robot's backstory nearly as much. I like that they took their time telling the complete story without trying rush it. I hope people will give this show a chance. It really deserves top honors.

I liked this anime. It was pretty good. The anti robot group reminded me of Nazi’s with their ideology. What happened to them by the end btw? But yes the episodes were quite chunky

I read the manga long ago, funny because never knew that it was literally an astro boy story adaptation. I remember seeing Atom and being like oh he's inspired by astro, but no he's literally just astro boy but in a more gritty story

Yeah in the original manga called Tetsuwan Atom (1952). I don't know why they change the name to Astro in the English adaptation. Some say there's already comic character called Atom, so to avoid confusion they change it to Astro

The manga is already concluded. So there will be no more source material. Unless this series become a huge hit and Netflix pour a lot of money to get Naoki Urasawa to come up with a new draft from another Osamu Tezuka's Atom Boy chapter. But I won't hold my breath.

I don't think this is the kind of story that needs answers for nearly everything, it was meant to challenge the reader (and now viewer) regarding many existential topics, and what is the human experience really, and we can project ourselves ironically enough, through the robots in this universe, much more so than the humans themselves.

Too bad Pluto will never be released on DVD nor Blu-ray. For two years, Sailor Moon Eternal still has not gotten a US disc release. That is why anime fans are rejecting Netflix. Fans collect. You can never collect what is on Netflix. Any content made only for streaming can be censored and removed at any time, being lost media as a result. Pluto and Netflix are never gold standards. Gold can never be digital.

It's really great for the first 85%. You are instantly drawn to the characters and the world. However, as soon as the mystery is gone and they have to actually try to explain the complexity of the plot, it falters. That is very typical when trying to tackle complex and uncharted territory and it's fascinating stuff, so it is still well worth watching.

​​@Soraxxzero It's a fairly faithful adaptation to the manga. If you don't like this, it's likely you won't like the manga either. Urasawa has a tendency to have slow thrillers with very tense action that is sprinkled sparsely. If you're not into that, you likely won't enjoy any of his work.
