The AVS 2 shines on the street, off idle. I put one on my Dart Sport last summer, and yeah heat soak is an issue even with a phenolic spacer. But it works so nice around town. It's not a race carb at all really.

I wanted to see this!!! 12:87 is not that bad for your budget built 360. Now the 9 second 143 MPH care you ran next is in my league. But I am impressed with your build. Keep it up. Just so you know I never listen to other people that much, "out of the box" is what people use when they cannot tell the truth about anything.

If you run any Edelbrock you have to install an insulator gasket between it and the intake. Otherwise, when the engine is hot it will be harder to start. My biggest complaint about these carbs. Otherwise they are great!

Hey Tim , that was really interesting, the new avs surprised me even though folks think there just for grocery getters, I'm a full blown Holley guy but that was cool and the ole Duster is really getting it for what it is, we had a 73 that we put a 380hp mopar crate motor with posi and 10.5 Micky's , the one time i raced the quarter with a 650 dbl pump it went 13.15 so your car has a really good combination because you could tell that seat of the pants, that crate engine would pin you in the seat...great channel....always watch 👍👍👍👍👍✅✅✅✅✅

That's why most people say you don't need big carbs on smaller street engines. Most people like the throttle response of 600 cfm tuned holley vacuum secondary for the street! The fast adjustments of a 'Carter' type AFB or AVS is the best.
@guidosarducci3047
@guidosarducci3047 Жыл бұрын
Truely this is a matter of preference for most people. For hotter motors - I'm a Holley man. But I can still appreciate the Edelbrock for a daily driver. The AFB or Edelbrock is well known for leaky float seats causing bleed down after sitting for 10 minutes ( give or take a few min ) and also for stumbling and stalling after burnouts. I think that the stumbling and stalling is due to the smaller float bowls on the AFB's. A larger fuel line and higher volume fuel pump will stop the stumbling and stalling problem after the burnout problem - but will make the bleed down problem even worse. I had to crank it longer after sitting with the larger fuel line and higher volume fuel feed. I don't know any way to fix both issues without just switching to a Holley, Brawler, AED, Proform, ect. I do still keep an old Carter for cam break-ins and timing adjustments - That way, I don't have to worry about popping the power valve on the Holley. But once I got it dialed in. I put the Holley on.

Greetings and thank you for a to the point, no nonsense delivery style as usual. I just changed my notifications on your channel to "All". As much as I always liked Holley's, I've been experimenting with Edelbrock carbs lately, AVS2 650, AVS2 800 & most recently, a plain old basic 600 CFM performer manual choke #1405 which I completely dismantled from the box and did a thorough blueprint to which it very much needed! Anyways, I've become a big fan of the Edelbrock and will never touch a Holley again. Super cool Duster as well!

I'd bet on fuel boiling in the AVS2, as well. I run old Carters, same deal, just you need an isolated spacer of some sort. Really surprised that 650 AVS2 was even close to a 750 Holley. Always hear the Carter/Edelbrocks don't flow as much air as a Holley with the same rating, figured that'd really slow you down since the rating is a 100 cfm lower to start with. Great video! Been looking for a cheap 750 double pumper to play with, now maybe I'll skip that idea.

Both of my AVS2'S did that and required the spring tension on the flap to be tightened a bit as well as a bigger accelerator pump shot which I accomplished by drilling out the brass to .036". I find that the smaller displacement engines are more prone to the AVS bog.

Id think thus proves what many have been saying for a long time when it comes to small blocks. Unless you are trying to make 500+ hp with a stroker build. A 650 edelbrock will work quite well. (Other than heat soak). Makes me feel better about running an 800 crm quadrajet on our 360.

Try adding a bigger squirter to your avs2 to get more fuel at launch. The brawler pumps way more fuel through the accelerator pumps than the avs2 in stock form. I would also bet the brawler is jetted a little richer out of the box than the avs2, thats why your mph was lower with it. Ive been having similar results between my holley 600 dp and edelbrock.
@318willrun
@318willrun Жыл бұрын
You been in my mind??? ha! I thought the exact same!
@valiant696
@valiant696 Жыл бұрын
@318willrun I run a wide band 02 on mine. I've found that the electric choke edelbrock is jetted right at 14:5:1 at cruise and just pretty close to 12.5:1 at w.o.t. I also found that a .003" jet change on the primary side gives a whole # change on the afr. A .003" jet change on the secondary only gives a .2 change in afr roughly. I think this is due to having a small displacement engine. I think a bigger engine may be more even. I'm running an afb style eddy. I believe the only difference between the afb style and avs is a spring loaded secondary door vs. Weighted.

Last comment on this, I promise....My suggestion to you is to buy 1 wide band o2 sensor and enough weld in or clamp on bungs and plugs for all your cars. Just swap the sensor to the car your working on at the time. Guess-work is gone. Set your cruise and w.o.t. much quicker than trial and error and plug reading. Also, check out thunderhead289's carb cheater. It's pretty cool. Keep up the great work.

Hi my name is Bill. I have an 1987 Dodge Van and I am wondering what the best approach to gaining power. My thought is that I would like to get a 360 4 barrel manifold and put that on my 318. Any thoughts? Would 318 will run have these parts available?
@318willrun
@318willrun Жыл бұрын
A 4bbl carburetor/and intake along with a good dual exhaust would help the 318 out for sure. I do not have any parts for sale at this time.

Yes, it would be fun to play with spacers! I have to admit, the AVS ran better against the brawler than what I expected! Thanks for watching!

I'm a Holley guy myself. Although I'll have to say that when those Edelbrock carbs are dialed in, they make for great all around carbs. You can get excellent throttle response, and drivability out of them. Them and the Holley types are both good carbs. Those who say the Edelbrock carbs are junk, do not know what they are talking about. Great video.

So let me get this straight SINCE other's must still be lost or blind... You tried to compare 2 completely different Universal carbs styles, sizes, & brands on a car you can't even full throttle at the drag strip because it's a 1 legger 😭😭😭 So did you even set floats? Was the power valve in the Holley matched to the idle vacuum it makes in gear? Because even at 7000rpm which you weren't close to & 90% efficiency that tiny engine only wants/needs 590cfm. This comparison proved nothing! NO One is buying a double pumper that can't even go full throttle at the drag strip. As that's the whole point 😂
