Well performed by the Sussex Symphony Orchestra. Perhaps this orchestra could produce an album of this and similar performances - the quality is there.

I am trying to source some history of this song BEFORE it got politicised by Maidan 2014. Yes, I know it is an old Ukrainian Folk Song. But who is the original writer? What period? What historical context? WWII or earlier?

"Folk" means that there's no author, it was created by many people as time went by. It could be from old times, e.g. when Ukraina was in fights with ruzzian tsars.
