Having problems do not mean that we are down sliding and that the government data is false. There is always goods and bads, pros and cons for every government. For that matter every household, society, company, village, town, city, state, country, subcontinent, continent, civilization, world...has its own pros and cons. When deciding its performance it is logical to weigh all of them and then decide. Understand that every country has its own problems. Do you know that the US, the UK, most of the West is under financial crisis. Do you know that China faces challengea in aging populations, decreased western manufacturing units, lesser jobs, lesser babies. Do you know that the US also faces raise in extreme poverty, increae in homeless people, disproportionally increaed healthcare costs. Do you know that Japan faces rapidly declining population, rapidly increasing depression, overworked burnouts and stress, fuel crisis, etc. Look at the broader picture and then decide.
