Hindi is not the mother tongue of all Indians. Many hundreds of languages are spoken as their mother language in India. In fact, even the English/Western Rulers/people could not understand and be baffled by the great diversity of this country, which has a great ancient legacy. Yes,Hindi is the official language. Modi is not the first Indian PM to speak in Hindi. Atalji first spoke in Hibdi in United Nations. Not tolerance but acceptance of persecuted minorities from neighboring countries as our own is in our DNA.
