That last shot had everything... the conditions, the loud exhaust beat, the sparks coming down just after the loco passed. Brilliant.

Great video! Back in late 1971 I bought some shares in this engine- I have a letter somewhere from Paul Burns. I also bought shares in 813 a year earlier- two stalwarts of the SVR. I hope the engine does not stay retired for too long but nearly fifty odd years on from arrival and over fifty from investing in helping save the engine, you wonder where the time has gone!

Goodbye, 2857. You have served the Valley well at galas and on ghost trains. Now it is time for you to rest. Hope to see you again soon. Excellently filmed and edited, as always. Cheers and keep up the great work - Alex.

Great stuff and out so quickly, thank you so much, i travelled behind her Sunday and Monday, close to the loco on return to Bridgnorth on Monday, driven how they should be, sparks flying, chimney roaring, I've not seen the like on the Valley for years, (please no explanations re carbon emissions or fuel costs), for it's last hurrah for a long time it was fabulous, best wishes and happy new year to everyone, Pete

Should have said Sunday for the "close to the loco" part, thanks again for the great video work, Pete (the old man 😂)

Wonderful , thank you. It is like a scene from another world , a beautiful land that time forget but in reality a place destroyed by progress . So sad.

Nicely filmed sequences, especially '2857' passing in half-light with sparks and cosy carriage lighting, and finale framed by bridge. Hippy New Year. TFP

Another that will most likely end up stored in the shed at Kidderminster until a space opens up in the works as Highley is full and I think there's other stuff to go in before 2857.

Epic shots of a fine machine. Hopefully the restoration isn’t too painful and before long it’ll be back on the rails in a few years.

What happens when the boiler ticket expires? This train looks still new and it's been overhauled in 2011 which isnt that long ago. Probably the boiler has no issues at all, so is there a chance that it just gets inspected and can run again next year? Or should it get a completely new boiler
@MasterMoyle2 жыл бұрын
While it did return to service in 2011 a boiler is maxed to no more than 10 years of service before it needs a complete retube and other work. However depending on if it's in perfect condition it can get either an extra year bringing it to 11 or a few extra months. 2857 was already on an extension to the ticket and that extension has now expired so it cant run again until it's been completely overhauled.

Do u think it will run again

11 years are up sadly. The engine had got an extension to it's boiler ticket and sadly this has now expired, gonna be a long time till we see her running again.

I’ve only ever seen 2857 twice, both times on the same day during the late Queens jubilee celebrations. Although not the best looking loco I will very much miss her

Guess this one will end up in the dead line like their nice Black 5 and others for a long long time.........
@MasterMoyle2 жыл бұрын
Most likely end up stored in Kidderminster shed as the engine house is full & as there's other stuff in the works presently & most likely due to go in before 2857 it could be a very very long time till we see the 2800 running again.

A year ago, it seemed to me that this noble and majestic sound had nothing to compare with. Now I compare it to the disgusting and vile sound of a russian cruise missile and Iranian drone, flying over my head in Kyiv and exploding a few hundred meters away, accidentally leaving me alive. Surely someone who remembers can compare it to the sound of Nazi FAU 1 and FAU 2 flying over London. God bless locomotive brigade led by Mr. Johnson and Mr. Sunak for standing with Ukraine.
