Great Vid. When you added Rnwy 01 with 4nm and 3 Deg GP could you use HDG/VS mode for a bit of a downwind and base and as you’re about to intercept final switch to LNav and Vnav. As well, if that’s possible will there be a GP on the screen to give you an idea of where you sit on GP while on downwind/base etc. Thanks!

I live in Hong Kong and from flightradar24 it seems that all planes follow the same approach route, no matter the weather conditions, so do big airports not allow visual approach due to heavy traffic?

Hi Darwin. Certainly in Europe at an extremely busy airport you'd be very likely denied the option of a visual approach. ATC are vectoring aircraft as efficiently as possible and at peak time an aircraft is landing at least every 90 seconds! FD2S.

I love these tutorials. I use x plane 11 with the zibo 737. It's not as near to real as pmdg737 but its getting there. Your tutorials literally taught me how to fly the thing. I recently switched to the a320 and have no tutorials like this. So, I'm back to 737. Keep up the good work fella.

Watch Doofer911 tutorials on the A320, watch Blackbox711 on his videos on the FSLabs A320, any good addon aircraft should (and does, I've tried to use FSLabs tutorials for Aerosoft, and vice versa) be used for any other addon, so there's plenty. Just watch cold and dark videos early on, just LOOK AND REMEMBER. Then once you're familiar with the scan flows and how the systems are, then you can ask the technical questions on the IFS and WHENS... Believe me I am pretty good on the A320, so you can ask for help. I can even talk to you on Discord and show you, I would LOVE to talk about the A320 with someone who seems interested. Don't give up on the beauty, it's an automated fancy thing. You might get bored early on, then once you understand the systems it'll feel like riding a bike, you just know where to look. It's beautiful, trust me.

Love it....to build on previous comment I made recently, I've been simming almost 10 years and I'm learning more with your tutorials than any other. It's all very fast paced at times and needs to be replayed a few times but just a joy to be learning the correct procedures, beautifully produced with no huge gaps in the action. IF I had a suggestion, it would be to consider pausing briefly before or after a complex procedure (for non pilots !) to explain. For me, your tutorials are concise and professional.... you can tell I'm excited for your next video 😊

Hi Laurent, For a Visual Approach you can create a point wherever you like, 4nm is a sensible distance from the threshold to allow yourself to turn onto final and be stabilised by 500ft!

flightdeck2sim That was fantastic. I was always afraid to do visual approaches when my add on ATC assigned them. The way you did it is awesome. It looks like im going to need practice. Like how you got those 4 nm green rings. It just sucks because as the simmer, we are the Captain and the First Officer so we must do everything. You did it so well because you are a Captain IRL for the Aircraft so it was a piece of cake. Thank you!

Fs2crew has an add-on that essentially gives you an FO that you can communicate by voice or buttons and will interact with you like irl, you should check it out! Wouldn't fly without it

Hi Pasolero. I'll try my best to answer. Try to avoid using the trim to fly the aircraft. The idea of trim is to make sure the aircraft is balanced and to place no load on the control column. Are you using a joystick? Regards, flightdeck2sim

Hi Akira. There are no minimums for a Visual Approach. We just ensure the aircraft is fully stabilised by 500ft AAL FD2S.

you have minimums to make sure you are visual with the runway prior to a certain altitude. To start a visual approach you have to already have visual of the runway, so there is no need for a minimum altitude.

Hi there! The rudder in a 737, unlike a light aircraft, is not used to coordinate turns, we just use Aileron and Pitch to turn. The only time we use rudder is to maintain centerline during takeoff and landing, de-crab during a crosswind landing or to counteract an engine failure. FD2S

Question, In real life, does it really matters for any pilot that he make smooth touch down or bit firm? I have experienced same pilot making different touch down feel. I was talking to my friend and saying that main thing for flying is navigating it properly from point A to B but touch down feel is secondary. Touch down feel doesnt count for a pilot to be good or bad. How far my thinking is true?

Hi Kk. Our primary aim is to conduct our operations safely. There is no priority say over en-route navigation and landing. We need to give each stage of flight utmost attention. We prioritise 1. Aviate - Always fly the aeroplane 2. Navigate - Where are we? Are we above the MSA etc? 3. Communicate - Be it with the cabin crew/ATC, keeping all parties informed. When it comes to landing we want safely in the touchdown zone every single time. FD2S.

Just pilots for the company I work for! It's a mixture of Type Ratings, Recurrency Training, Transitional Type Rating (people joining with a different rating aka scarebus) and ground school instruction. I fly on the line for one week and then three weeks in the sim.

Hi Simon! I couldn't tell you how many FPM constitutes to a smooth landing! There is nothing more frustrating as an instructor when cadets try and pull off a smooth landing and keep pulling up during the flare! It's worth noting if the runway is contaminated we'd actually aim for a firmer landing so we can get on the ground ASAP to deploy all the stopping forces needed on a slippery runway. Unfortunately the general public perceive a firm landing as a bad landing or the pilots are poorly trained etc... But if I was a passenger knowing we were landing on a short runway I'd be very concerned if we were still flying passing the threshold 10 seconds previously followed by a greaser........ Glad you liked my tutorial! Quite Intensive but that is to get all the information across live time! FD2S

LVL CHG in a nut shell is a pitch mode where the aircraft pitches for the speed set on the MCP in both climb and descent FD2S

Hi ASTUESP That is forbidden, Speedbrake must be retracted with Flaps more than 10 (F15, F25, F30, F40). Maybe company specific but certainly the rules here! FD2S

Trust me, there is a massive misconception with the general public that a smooth landing is a good landing....

Is that because, with a smooth landing, the aircraft will be light on the runway initially, meaning wind etc will effect the aircraft more? And with a harder landing you are making good contact and making sure that you are using the full weight of the aircraft to increase ground control? I'm just theorizing here.

Not too far off nvstewart. If you go for that "greaser" on a short runway you'll be using valuable runway where you really want to have the wheels on the ground applying brakes, reverses engaged and ground spoilers extended! FD2S
