Just lovely-having my recurrent training in 2 days this helps out a lot. Many of us are grounded, sent home or don't even work for a company anymore like I do. I haven't flown a 737 for over a year now and I am glad some folks help us out online. Well done and thank you!

Great tutorial as always, its interesting to see the minor differences of sop’s between companies :). We normally use vnav on takeoff (we have 10.8 on our fleet) and set the EO Accel Height, at 400ft call for bank angle 15 (in case we need to follow a specific seop routing), hdg select and engine severe damage qrc checklist (which contains the memory items you mentioned plus some others) and we can also engage autopilot if stabilized at 400ft, after v2+15 we call for bank angle 25, after completing qrc checklist we declare emergency not pan pan. At level off we retract flaps on schedule, set max cont thrust, level chg to msa or as required in the seop and continue the checklist which redirects from qrc to qrh. Once we get to the deferred items we call for the after takeoff checklist and prepare the return to the airport.

Hi Manuel Z Interesting to hear and thanks for sharing! Loads of different operators use slightly different methods to get the same job done. Training pilots from other airlines, they often query why is it different from where they’ve come from! I just have to teach them the way it’s done here! FD2S

Excellent work! I was just wondering if anyone would do one of these abnormal handlings in a sim this morning and here I am appreciating the fine work of yours. I am from Asia and the only difference in our procedures compares to yours is that we have to declare a MAYDAY if we lost half of our engines. Really good management of the workload and handling of the aircraft! Learned a lot!

Well, I requested a one engine failure/bird strike video during your recent live feed and you said you were already planning the V1 cut and what a lesson you've taught us. I'm going to be re-viewing this video a lot. Brilliant stuff, many thanks. The only time I suffered a failure like this, was a bird strike in X-Plane 10 a couple of years ago. At the time I thought..."What do I do now" lol. For some reason the flock of birds seems to have disappeared in X-Plane 11. I might just have to pull the engine cut off lever on engine 2 and see what that does for me. Keep the videos coming please. Great stuff to watch.

By the way..did you do the after takeoff checklist? I must have missed it. You handled the work load with precision despite no co Pilot and made it look too easy! Your NOTECH skills are commendable!

Hi Erwin, glad you like the video! In this situation this was not an engine separation, this indicates the whole engine has fallen off! Secondly all systems are still Hydraulically powered as we’ve only lost the engine driven hydraulic pump, the electric hydraulic pump is still available 👍🏼 FD2S

@flightdeck2sim
@flightdeck2sim 6 жыл бұрын
Hi flyhalf2, Although a Mayday (emergency) call could’ve been made this is more for distress and imminent danger to either the aircraft or other traffic. (Eg Rapid Depressurisation, Fire, Pilot incapacitation) Depending on several factors a PAN call (urgency) should be sufficient with a controlled engine failure Both can be upgraded or downgraded and cancelled at any time FD2S

Great video and really nice explantion! I have produced the same from a Full Flight simulator on my channel. I love how clear the displays are. An interesting discussion point is that with seizure you may not get the airframe vibration, which you don't in many Full Flight simulators. So most copanies use airmanship and as you say, with 0 N1 and or 0 N2 this is likely to be a severe damage. Interesting that the PMDG does not have the auto pop up feature of the lower DU. The secondary instruments should have appeared without selection, unless you use the compact display. Keep up the great work! Really enjoying your videos!

Hi Rishav, the aircraft can be flown without HYD A and B but the primary controls (except rudder which can be controlled by the SBY HYD systems) become very heavy. Pitch and Roll requires a significant physical input to control the aircraft, it's hard work but still controllable. FD2S

Do you ever put any altitudes in the FMC descent page for TAI ON/OFF, if you are expecting the use of engine anti-ice on a descent? From what I know, the engine anti-ice system increases the idle thrust, and thus it modifies a little the optimum descent profile. And if it modifies it, it is that significant? Thank you.
@flightdeck2sim
@flightdeck2sim 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ovidiu I haven't really used it unless I anticipate using TAI throughout the entire descent, you usually end up turning it on and off during a typical descent in Europe through all the gnarly weather. I've never considered how this will affect my descent profile. It does make a small difference to your descent of course but it's negligible compared to say a speed change from ATC or a massive shortcut! FD2S

Hi Paul! MSFS and XP11 both have their pros and cons and I still love using both sims. 737 wise, the PMDG in MSFS is superb for a launch version albeit needing some fine tuning. I am not sure if this is applicable in the UK (since I assume UK follows ICAO convention for holding speeds). But whatever the restrictions, they are applicable in this situation as well (as long it is safe to adhere to), right?

@flightdeck2sim
@flightdeck2sim 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks (Luck!) The NGX is a great product with accurate systems replicated and I would still recommend it! X- Plane utilises a superior flight model and things such as ground effect, the inputs I make with the ZIBO MOD are comparative to what I'd make with the control column on the real aircraft. The NGX and all aircraft in P3D/FSX feel a little artificial, aircraft do tend to float considerably. Also turbulence/wind is massively dampened hence my move to XP11! It feels much more realistic FD2S

Thanks for clearing that up. I just checked on line and much to my surprise I see that there are quite a number of Boeing A/C that don't have fuel dump capability :- www.boeing.com/assets/pdf/commercial/airports/faqs/fueldump.pdf Some wag created an add on for the FSX PMDG NGX which would allow a fuel dump & I used it a couple of times during a simulated engine failure. My mistake for not checking the facts......."The facts man.....check the facts" :) There is a KZbin video where the crew had to dump fuel after some problem shortly after departure from Zurich airport (Airbus A340). They were directed by ATC over to some forested area to do the dump before returning to LSZH. A good example of engine shutdown procedure :- kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHbJZGiEqdF1gsk

Hi FD2S, Loved this video. Would you have to squawk an emergency code in this scenario or stay with your assigned code? Thanks

Hi Nerf My Age, If you were unable to contact the controller due to R/T congestion we would use 121.5 and then squawk 7700 otherwise we would leave our assigned squawk. ATC might ask us to set 7700 so we are are highlighted to other controllers that we are in an urgency/distress situation. FD2S

Shouldn't you declare an emergency instead of pan pan pan if you have an engine failure?

Something I've always wondered, what is it like to get sim time as an actual pilot? Does your company have time slots in the simulator that you can sign up for to just try things as you want, or do you have to wait for pre-scheduled simulator schedule times the company assigns to practice set events? I've always wanted to find someplace near me with a 737 simulator that offered flights, but the nearest I've found is all the way on the West Coast in LA.

Hi Aaron! Every 6 months you must go in the full motion Sim for your check The company I work for also have fixed base training devices (FNPT Trainers) which can be booked and used by crew. They have a fully enclosed 737 flight deck where several scenarios can be practiced FD2S

Hi dear Captain! Another great tutorial as usual! Thank you for your efforts! Let me ask you a curiosity: Which 737 do you prefer? The PMDG or the Zibo one? And why? Greetings from Italy!

Hi Yoke, Rudder and Crosswinds! Take a look at my first ZIBO tutorial at the pinned comment for my thoughts comparing the two! kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJqqcpymrbB8i7c The NGX is a study level aircraft with pretty much every system accurately replicated. I’ve now been providing regular feedback to ZIBO as have several other 737 line pilots, the FM is being developed by twkster who has years of airline experience and it’s now a solid platform and is my preferred choice. It also utilises the superior flight model provided by XP 11. For me ZIBO’s MOD is one of the best handling 737 sims you can get. FD2S

You dont use the aileron for 5 degrees into the good engine?? Why not?? Only rudder. and level??

That’s because we’re in a 737 and not a light multi engine piston aircraft like a Seneca! FD2S

@@flightdeck2sim Still, the thrust is coming from the side, like a Seneca or any. Is the coordination ball on the side or centered..

I've been told by someone in a stream that they showed a real pilot the PMDG 777, and he responded saying that "it's all bullshit". The person declined to further explain what exactly was "bullshit", but I am curious about your thoughts

Hi FD2S. Can you comment on the procedure for windshear detection at V1...re: Aeromexico accident?
@flightdeck2sim
@flightdeck2sim 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Gillian. I haven’t had time to read into it yet. From an operational point of view if you have windshear immediately after V1 you get airborne and perform the windshear escape manoeuvre FD2S

@flightdeck2sim
@flightdeck2sim 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jump N´ Run, are you referring to the fact the SYS B light didn’t go on? If so that’s because if you pull the fire handle switch the light becomes inhibited 👍🏼 FD2S
@jumpnrun3368

Uh okay Thanks! makes sense ans the fire handle cuts hydraulic connections to the engine as far as i know.

Jump N´ Run correct 👍🏼. Pulling the handle closes the respective engine driven HYD pump shut off valve and inhibits the light. FD2S

An amazing tutorial Captain! When an engine failure like this occurs in real life, what happens to the aircraft after landing? Is the operative engine fully replaced due to the additional load it had to support? Hope FD2S is the operator on my next trip 🙂 Thank you!! P.S. The Maverick signature was awesome 😎
@flightdeck2sim
@flightdeck2sim 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Massimo, The aircraft would need to be thoroughly inspected before being released back to service and obviously the damaged engine would be replaced. The operative engine should be fine as the thrust you need to set should be well within the operating limits. FD2S
