A brief video of my new favorite feature. PMG Primary Memory Group

I've been running a FTM-300D as a base unit for a while. And I sure do love the clarity of C4FM and ease of use, compared to programming a DSTAR repeater into the radio. But the fact that Yaesu doesn't think that mobile users ever travel outside of their home town has kept me from running a Yaesu in the mobile. My ICOM 4100 has 11 memory banks programmed with over 500 repeaters, each for a specific region where I'm traveling to. Not sure why Yaesu thinks that memory banks are a good idea on my FT-5 but not on 50 watt mobile units. It doesn't make any sense. But upon seeing Joel's video above, and how easy it is to pick a repeater from memory and put it into PMG, I picked up a FTM-200 unit to give it a try. Still not sure why Yaesu stopped at 5 channels for the PMG; why not 10? Thanks Joel for the great review. And I agree, I'd much rather see the repeater names & frequencies flash by rather than a meaningless, "Mem scan". 73's

Thanks for the great video and explaining how the PMG works. I've been thinking about buying a new mobile and ruled out the 500 just because of cost and what you get for the cost. I almost bought the 300 but was still looking at the differences between the 200 and 300. I really want the dual band monitor so I can listen to two different frequencies at the same time. Showing us how the PMG works was really nice. Now I know a really good work around to use the 200 like a 300 and save the cost for the extra band. Keep up making great videos! 73's

The FTM-300D shows the frequencies when it is scanning. It does not have the PMG button.

El espectómetro escanea sólo también en VFO?. Es que tengo un quansheng kg v6, que sí que lo hace. Quiero saber, si podría hacerlo con una ftm 200-300. Gracias 😉👍

Thanks for another informative video, Joel. I've got a 200 on the way and will let you know if it has the receiver noise you experience. Much as it's a great radio, mine will just be a node to one of our repeaters. I've gotten used to MEM SCAN on the FT-5. Takes a mental adjustment. I'm guessing, as with the FT-5, that the scan rate is also much faster. The scan rate of the 300 is nothing to brag about.

If only the FT5D would scan the PMG.

Interesting new rig from Yaesu. Based on your video, I am leaning toward getting one. How did you mount the rig on the mirror and am wondering if you could do a step by step video on how to input the frequencies. Great video. Thanks! 73 KD4FJ

Great video. I’m really interested in the PMG function now having seen it. Did you get the weird noise figured out from the month older video?
@KiloEcho5 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. The noise is still present. I relocated the radio to a different vehicle and noise persists.

Thanks for the video. Where can you buy the mount you used ? It looks like a great place to mount it.

It is made from GoPro handlebar mount and a piece of the yaesu suction cup mount.

Hi Joel, your brother shared one of your video on the 200. At the time i was on the road with my cell and didn't notice who the video was from. what made you choose the 200 over the 300? I am starting to have issues with my second 400 and i am looking around. I also want to get with you about your WIRES net on Friday evenings. You can get my number from your brother or call the carpet store number. Take care. Brian

Hello Brian, I had two unused gift certificates for HRO which dropped the price down to $300. I really loved the ftm100 and was eager to see the similarities to the ftm200.

Where did you get that mounting bracket for the control head?
@KiloEcho52 ай бұрын
It’s a GoPro Camera handlebar mount with the Yaesu suction cup bracket.

@@KiloEcho5 Thanks for the quick reply, I just ordered this radio. What kind of antenna do you use with this radio?
@KiloEcho5 Жыл бұрын
For my flatlands area, a Comet SBB-5 mobile antenna on center of roof works very good.

SO they dummied down the memory scan by now showing the memories to a 5 memory scan that has a bar graph is essentially what it is, and may be easier to change your scan list... And this is not available on the 300, weird.
@KiloEcho5 Жыл бұрын
No. The 200 has your traditional memory scan, identical to the 100, 300, 400 etc. PMG is a specialized memory mode only on the 200.
