This is final section from my 2023 Eabo PNT thru-hike from Bonner's Ferry to Eureka. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time left to complete the last section but I will be back in 2024 to complete it.
The section started with hot, dry, and dusty trails. The Fiest Creek Resort was a nice reprieve as they opened their doors for me on a blistering hot Tuesday afternoon. The next day featured the dramatic Nortwest Peaks Alternate. This one was much tamer than Lions Head Ridge. I made it more difficult for myself by not taking enough water.
Then the trail follows dirt roads and some paved roads through the remote Yaak Valley before climbing up to the Mt. Henry Lookout Tower. I realized earlier that day that I could make it there for camp if I pushed. It was a thrilling way to end the day and the tower proved to be an excellent place to spend my second to last night on trail.
The trail then followed the ridge of the Purcell Mountains before dropping down to Lake Koocanusa and a long road walk into Eureka. The Frontier Bar was a nice place to celebrate my last night on trail and enjoy myself.
The next morning I hiked the remaining few miles into Eureka and hitched all the way to Missoula to fly back to Denver. Til next year PNT!
