Which Spotting Scope? 65mm vs 85mm

Nice! I'm in the market for a spotter right now and this is exactly what I was wondering. Do you think you would still choose the 65 over the 85 with the diamondback series scopes? I don't have 4 figures to spend on hunting gear at the moment ;)

I am close to pulling the trigger on a Vortex scope and this helped. I didn't notice any chromatic aberration in either scope in your side by side comparison. What have you experienced in your use as far as aberration goes? Thanks!

It becomes apparent at bigger magnifications and in certain lighting but hasn’t been a huge issue

fellows great review and comparison, I just got a Athlon 65 but I am using it for night sky viewing and I need to be able to carry it on my bicycle when I am bicycle touring down in South America next year. I almost got the Vortex but I got a really great deal on the Athlon so I went with it. I appreciate the review . Cheers and thank you.

Is the 65mm good for truck hunting?

I have 65mm & 80mm Not a lot of difference about 10% brightness Dusk & Dawn 80mm. Angle or straight ? I prefer straight after using angled for years. Looking into something is easier than looking for something (my opinion). Swarovski Zeiss Leica Any of the above will do an excellent job for years. I bought 7 crap scopes before buying my good one try not to make the same mistake.

Go with the 65mm. I been running the vortex diamondback had 16x48x65 spotting scope it’s awesome. Best spotting scope for the price.

I have 65, easier to carry where I go. At 300 yards I can count pine needles on trees. Good enough for me. I don’t need any more than that. My regret is I didn’t get angled body.

@ If im standing my tripod is not tall enough. I have a ball head tripod and the extension is not tall enough. I’m standing most of the time when I’m shooting or need to check where my shot went. It’s excellent in all other situations.
