There are all sorts of fun engines! Each have their own strengths and weaknesses. VOCALOID is a mainstay in the community and tends to be pretty versatile when it comes to whatever sound you're going for, but is lacking a few features that fans have been wanting for a while now. SynthV is great if you're looking for realism and uses a more widely known phonetic language for English, it's also cheaper than vocaloid. Alter/Ego is made to be rough and and Chipspeech is even rougher! UTAU is hit or miss depending on the voicebanks you're using since they're all user generated. It's free but has a steep learning curve. Cevio mainly caters to the Japanese market these days, thought they have a few english voicebanks, and has a very unique engine noise. And then there's the really janky option of niaoniao which is super broken and sounds like a mircrowave. All in all there are just so many cool engines out there to try with all sorts of flavor. It's always cool seeing new people get into vocal synthesis :)

you've probably heard about this a lot but. alter ego was originally made for a rough sounding, old tech kind of vibe. you might find more quality in UTAU banks, though they are hard to set up and use. my channel has a lot of covers using them and while im definitely not the best at it i think im kind of ok especially my more recent stuff haha loving the dedication to cover all aspects of this topic

That’s actually really insightful. Thank you for sharing that! And I’ll check out your channel! I def have my bias towards po uta, but there is a time and place for both!

really cool informative video! while po uta is higher quality i think both have their own charm! id also like to mention to people in the comments, there are free vocal synthesizers that are arguably the same or higher quality to vocaloid 6 if you're on a budget! i'd recommend **Synth V Lite (Eleanor Forte Standard!)**, UTAU, and Voisona if you're Japanese.

Great suggestions. Before doing this video I looked into a few of these, unfortunately I only speak English and Spanish, so the Japanese ones don’t work for me, but the demo tracks sounded amazing!

Ohhh I use Alter/Ego a few times in the past, it's a bit tricky and not as realistic as the new version of vocaloid, but i think it's nice if you're on a budget :) Generally to use Alter/Ego, i raise the wave rate to 180% and reduce the phoneme speed to 25% to fix the timing issues :3

This is basically the comment I was trying to leave the other day which didn't work. I will try to write it again here and try not including a link this time and hopefully it works. At 2:54 I agree 100% that is very annoying that you cannot control the DAW playback from within Vocaloid. Having said that, I believe in some DAWs that this issue can be bypassed by using "Vocaloid Bridge". You should be able to see Vocaloid Bridge in your DAW (for me it is shown as an effect). I have not actually tried this myself, as my DAW is Reason 12 which does not actually work with Vocaloid Bridge because the DAW needs to be ARA2 compatible, and unfortunately Reason 12 is not! However, in your case, according to Vocaloid website, your DAW Logic Pro should be able to work with Vocaloid Bridge, and I believe that once you set it up you should no longer have to switch back to your DAW every time you want to start/stop/pause your Vocaloid project. At this point is where I pasted the link last time, but instead, if you Google "vocaloid bridge with logic pro", the first result should be from the Vocaloid website and basically run you through how to set it up. If you ever try this, let me know how you go, as I would be interested to hear if it works! Hopefully I am understanding it correctly 🙂Cheers.

I really reccomend you try out synth v! It has a paid and free version and its way better then vocaloid imo., it's also very very to work with! (For English i reccomend Eleanor forte, Solaria or ANRI, not to mention that there's a free version for all of these voicebanks)

I’ll have to check out the free version! I did hear some samples and it sounds the most realistic to me!

Totally! Start with free and move up if you want/need later. Alter Ego comes with two voices, I just showed one so it would be a more fair comparison to po uta, but the second is a female voice.

i left a comment for you earlier on this video which i thought you may have found helpful, but now it has disappeared. i suspect this may be because I included a link to a section of the vocaloid website in my comment. do you have comments with links disabled (sometimes that is the default setting i think), or is my comment sitting in your "Held for review" section, or has it just disappeared into thin air?

Alterego > Vocaloids imo if you have a comprehensive understanding of voicebox synths then in my honest opinion you can make anything sound good but in my experience I’ve found it more accessible and easier to understand Alterego and making the vocal performance flow easily with the Daisy voicebank.
@lawrydenyer Жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this. I think alter ego has more customization and is simpler in a lot of ways, but that being said I prefer the sound of vocaloid. But that’s the cool thing about this kind of art/creativity side is that we all have our own taste. Which the world is better for it. So seriously thank you! And alter ego is amazing and free and that is awesome.

@@lawrydenyer super true! I have massive respect for anyone is able to utilise vocaloids because I definitely cannot figure out that software for the life of me ahaha, I agree there are so many settings and parameters that open up quite a lot for AlterEgo and I find it insane how some of my favourite inspirations and artists like Machinedrum and Former have used AlterEgo and made some absolute belters out of it like the same way Porter Robinson had definitely made an impact with the Vocaloid inspo of Worlds!
